Good news

Recently, I have received news from many friends, saying that the postgraduate entrance examination has landed, and soon I will get the letter of admission for the master's degree that I am thinking of.

Some people said that they should report to the laboratory in advance, and there are many to exchange about the life and experience of graduate school. Of course, many friends have expressed some worries and confusion.

In fact, every time I see this kind of good news, I am very happy, as if I have also returned to the afternoon when I got my master's admission letter 8 years ago.

Because the training and learning mode at the postgraduate level is very different from that at the undergraduate level, many people may not be comfortable when they first came up. So in this article, taking advantage of the weekend’s preparation, let’s talk about the adjustment of the postgraduate mentality and how to get along with your tutor as a student, so as to spend the graduate career smoothly.

Still the same sentence: Good things are hard to come by, steady words take the lead.

Let’s talk about this, one is because now graduate students are about to start school, maybe you are also experiencing inner anxiety and expectations; the other one, talk about these, for those who are planning to take the postgraduate entrance examination or are in the process of taking the postgraduate entrance examination. Reference, because this is something you may face in the future.

This article GitHub https://github.com/rd2coding/Road2Coding has been included, and there are my own six programming directions (positions) self-study routes + knowledge points combed , interview test , my resume. , hardcore pdf notes , and my programmer life .

First, let’s talk about some general real feelings about graduate school.

In fact, I have also talked about my postgraduate study experience before. In the three years of graduate school in Huake, the two words condensed are: loneliness and pressure, it is indeed a little tired. But I have to admit that this is also the three years I have been rewarded for. I am still very grateful for my study experience and the various opportunities and encounters it has brought me.

In fact, as an ordinary graduate student, as an ordinary scholar, there are many things that we cannot change. However, as a person who came over, how to get along with the teacher in harmony, I have some experience to talk about, everyone listen and feel.

The role of mentor is actually very accurate in English: Supervisor, translated should be your instructor, guide, or supervisor. But some graduate students will call their supervisors "Boss" or "Boss". In fact, I personally don't agree with this name, nor have I called it that way.

Take the three years of my graduate study in Huake as an example. If only from my personal experience, from the perspective of a mentor (at least my mentor is like this), once you enroll, he really doesn’t pay much attention to it. If you say what your background is, or what your previous abilities and skills are, he may not even remember where you were admitted.

I always hear that many young friends who have just come ashore seem to be both looking forward to and worried, afraid that they will not be able to hold the postgraduate study and work, and will not be seen by their tutors.

Let's put it this way, in fact, most of the time it is our own worry. From a general point of view, everyone who just started school is actually pretty much the same. Think about it. If you can pass the written test and the retest, you will be admitted. There is no problem with your learning ability. There is absolutely no need for you to worry too much in this regard. To be able to be qualified for postgraduate work, you must first have the psychological confidence to be able to hold it. The follow-up is nothing more than a matter of time and effort.

But if you take a little longer, you will find that in fact, the instructor should be more positive and correct towards those students, who are more diligent and have a sense of discipline and sense of responsibility. After all, the instructor is not just responsible for a student, but is associated with a team, so my is: a more correct attitude and a more diligent .

second suggestion is: learn to communicate, and learn to communicate efficiently

has a problem? have a thought? Troubled? It doesn't matter, it can be said that this is the norm during graduate school.

We are all grown-ups. We still have to express our ideas actively and bravely. I believe that as long as you are willing to express them, the instructor will definitely listen. But at this time, we need to pay attention to the occasion, method, method, and efficiency of problem expression.

In fact, this thing is just like asking others if you have problems. Don’t have any problems. If you don’t even think about it, just throw it at others, so that others can’t help you solve it. After all, others don’t know the real pain point of your problem. Where.

The same is true for communicating with your instructor. You must sort out the most painful points of your questions and list them one by one, such as:

  • What are you currently doing?
  • Based on what background and framework?
  • What is the current level?
  • What difficulties and risks have you encountered?
  • What are the expected results?
  • What kind of help and support are you looking forward to?
  • ... and many more

In this way, the mentor can help you solve it in a targeted manner, or mobilize his resources to help you solve it.

Regardless of mentality or academic issues, you can actually find some appropriate time to talk to the teacher. The academic problem is actually the best solution. Even if the tutor can't handle it, he has so many resources, this must not be a problem; and the mentality problem is to find the time to dare to express, to speak out, and to hold back easily. Suppress yourself.

third suggestion is: do not rely solely on the mentor, rely on the mentor

The study mode at the postgraduate level is very different from that at the undergraduate level. The training requirements are much higher, and the autonomy and independence requirements for learning and research are much higher. Many young friends who have just passed the exam are not comfortable with it for a while, after all, the roles change too quickly.

I remember when I was just in graduate school, I was pressed and rubbed on the ground every day, and I was often overwhelmed and missed the other. But every time I said to myself in my heart: Do you want to stop holding on for a while and try?

Many friends always feel as if they don't get the attention of their instructors during the graduate school stage, and seem to always feel a sense of disappointment. To be honest, this is also the confusion I experienced.

We must know that the instructor is actually quite busy, and we still have to rely on ourselves for everything. We have to change our mindset to look at this issue.

I remember one time I was very impressed, it seemed like an opportunity to change the paper. In the mentor's office, when I was chatting with my mentor, he actually complained. I remember what he said at the time:

"In fact, I really envy you students who are studying. You can still have a relatively complete time to read documents and write codes. As a tutor, my time is often shattered. I have to go to a meeting for a while. I have to do a review, and I have to give lectures to international students, and then I have to go to a meeting to review the manuscript. He himself said that sometimes he sees a good article, but there is almost no time to concentrate on researching a document."

These words are indeed what I heard with my own ears.

I personally feel that if a tutor can listen to students' difficulties and pain points (both academic and non-academic) and actively provide help to help solve them, I think this tutor is already very competent and can be regarded as a good teacher. What he does is often to provide some research directions and laboratory platforms and resources.

So even if the instructor is an academician of the Academy of Sciences or the Academy of Engineering, it may not be very practical to expect him to be around to teach you a specific skill. This psychological construction must be done in advance, and everything must be done by yourself.

fourth suggestion is: do things in a closed loop, there is a beginning and there is an end

In fact, this principle is also universal in later workplace work.

Do one thing as much as possible to make it have a result, or have a statement, regardless of whether the result is positive or opposite.

As mentioned above, take the most common research report during graduate school as an example: what did you originally want to do, what background and framework are you based on, to what extent you are currently doing it, what difficulties and risks you encounter, and what you expect What is the result, what is the follow-up correction plan... This is a typical closed-loop thinking.

Everything is explained and actions have results. This is not only a closed-loop ability, but also a reliable performance.

fifth suggestion is: control emotion

Not dare to encounter any scenes and situations, it is very important to control your emotions at all times. Especially when you get along and communicate with your mentor, there is no benefit to being hard-headed, so learn to be humble and bow your head appropriately. Calm down when things happen. This is not just for graduate school, isn't it the same in society?

So I wrote so much eloquently. This is what an old senior wants to talk about this weekend, hoping to help you who are in the process of graduate school or who are about to enter the process.

postscript

Recently, I have spent a lot of effort to organize the programming learning resources for my own use.

They are all pure liver products, the catalog is as follows, you can pick up if you need it.

The content GitHub https://github.com/rd2coding/Road2Coding already included, there is also my finishing self-line six directions + programming knowledge large comb , my resume , interview test sites , few hardcore pdf notes , and My programmer life , welcome star.

It is not easy to organize, and the white glance is not good, remember to support three consecutive waves.
