An open source Hongmeng 2.0 launch conference was held on June 2 (I learned later that Huawei had donated Hongmeng to the foundation. This launch event was hosted by the Open Atom Open Source Foundation). I wrote an article reviewing Hongmeng by appointment. I sympathize with Huawei being unreasonably and brutally suppressed by the U.S. government, and praise Huawei Hongmeng for its anti-stress and innovative spirit!

After the press conference, everyone was talking about Hongmeng, and I would also like to talk about some views on Hongmeng:

① Huawei's research and development of Hongmeng (later named) operating system was a great measure to resist pressure and innovation. The success of Hongmeng's research and development is a great achievement.

②While affirming the success of Hongmeng's research and development, we must also see that Hongmeng still has some shortcomings to be improved.

③I thought that Huawei's Hongmeng was inspired by Google's Fuchsia (OS) cross-platform design ideas (Fuchsia's design ideas affect both Chinese and foreign), and later innovated (Huawei later proposed the concept of multi-scenario and distributed bus architecture) ), this is undeniable.

④Fuchsia aims at the Internet of Everything, starting with the cross-platform microkernel and Internet of Things (IoT), as does Huawei!

⑤Fuchsia later focused on smartphones and PCs (desktop systems), attempting to expand cross-platform from IoT to mobile phones and PC networks.

At this time, the Fuchsia operating system began to focus on matching with mobile phones and PCs, with the purpose of replacing Android, iOS, and even attempting to replace Windows.

Although the mobile version and PC version of Fuchsia have been successfully tested and produced supporting prototypes (such as Nexus6p, NUC, etc.), they have not been able to produce energy for a long time. The reason is that there are still blind spots in cross-platform compatibility and Fuchsia technology is not yet mature (two years ago) When I had a "fireside conversation" with LF two Fellow Linus and Greg, they agreed that although Fuchsia was successfully tested with mobile phones and PCs, its technology is not yet mature).

⑥The following focuses on Hongmeng and its development:

a. The open source Hongmeng should be the Internet of Things (IoT) version of the operating system (microkernel, distributed bus architecture, IoT multi-scenarios). The design is successful. If the open source Hongmeng is also the mobile version of Hongmeng, it is currently There is a lot of controversy. Some people say that the mobile version is a completely different closed source system or an ASOP.

b. Why can't the mobile version constitute a multi-scenario open source Hongmeng like the IoT version?
Hongmeng has created the advantages of solving communication with different hardware platforms on the IoT version, but it has encountered obstacles on the mobile version. I have said in the past that the scenes of the mobile version are not that simple. In these complex and large scenes, it is difficult to bypass. The very thick patent wall.

c. I once praised Huawei's innovative concept of multi-core. I suggest that the mobile phone board Hongmeng (either called Hongmeng or Hongmeng) can currently use the Linux operating system based on the Linux macro kernel. It is open source and has rich experience in avoiding the patent wall, solving the ability to communicate with different hardware platforms, and maintaining Communication is smooth.

d. As for the use of microkernels and the expansion of the IoT version of Hongmeng to the mobile version of Hongmeng (bypassing the patent wall and solving the communication and connection problems with its hardware terminals), you can take a slower step.

e. Two years ago, when I talked about Fuchsia with Linux founder and IEEE-CS (Computer Pioneer Award) winner Linus, he thought that the technology of Fuchsia is not yet mature (it may take several years to mature after the test is successful. ). This is worth learning when today's IoT version of Hongmeng matures.

f. The biggest problem with the mobile phone version of the Hongmeng operating system is the ecological construction. The current HMS is only suitable for domestic use, and it cannot go abroad yet! If you want to develop the international version of the mobile phone Hongmeng, you still need to work hard in ecological construction (attracting international volunteer developers to come and develop together).
