Zilliz Chen Shiyu: Women’s unique insights and perspectives may find new opportunities for open source｜ Interview with ECUG Meetup Lecturer

On the afternoon of June 26, ECUG x Qiniu Cloud will co-host the "ECUG Meetup Phase 1" event in Hangzhou. Chen Shiyu, a senior data engineer from Zilliz, will use "Similar Search and Recommendation of Audio and Video" as the theme Sharing, starting from the application scenarios and solutions, discuss how to easily realize the analysis and recommendation of audio and video through the open source vector database Milvus and AI technology. Combining AI technology and the open-source vector database Milvus can easily realize the analysis and recommendation of audio and video.

3. As a star product in the open source field, Milvus of Zilliz, what do you think is the biggest advantage?

Simple and easy to use. Milvus provides Docker deployment and a variety of APIs, allowing users to quickly build their own minimal products with minimal cost.

1. With the development of technology in the audio and video field, has there been some "involution" phenomenon? What is it if there is?

At present, many fields have begun to make video. From the earliest entertainment and education to e-commerce and technical live broadcasts, different fields will have different needs. It is necessary to design different systems to adapt, and more and more Audio and video platforms compete.

2. What do you think is the core issue of audio and video technology at this stage?

Audio and video data is generated all the time, and the core problem is how to process these huge data in real time.

3. What are your expectations for the application of audio and video technology in the future?

Hope that the future audio and video processing can be more intelligent, such as recommendation, voice processing, etc. more personalized.

3. Industry

1. Can you talk about your understanding of open source?

Open source requires more altruism. It would be a very meaningful thing to open source your own products to help others. In addition, open source is also an important means to reduce repetitive wheel manufacturing. For some relatively basic underlying technologies, if each company develops behind closed doors, it will inevitably lead to repeated investment and vicious competition in the subsequent market. We expect to initiate and maintain an open source project that is widely recognized by the world.

2. What is the biggest gain for you from open source?

Open source has made me know a lot of excellent projects, and a series of projects like Java, Hadoop, Spark, etc. have all benefited us. At the same time, open source has also made me know many like-minded friends from all over the world. We discuss open source projects through the Internet, share our ideas, and develop and improve projects together.

3. With the development of society, gender labels are gradually being weakened. In your opinion, for the developer field, what changes and differences will be brought about by the participation of female members?

In my opinion, everyone has their own characteristics and values. Women may have unique insights and perspectives in some fields, and they can discover new opportunities for open source. The participation of women can also make the open source field more diversified. For example, more than 30% of the women in our company play their value in their positions, some programming, some promoting open source communities, and some recruiting talents for the company.
