About SuperEdge

SuperEdge provides a set of edge container management system based on native Kubernetes. This open source project is jointly released by Tencent Cloud, Intel, VMware Wei Rui, Huya, Cambrian, Meituan, Capital Online, and many companies. SuperEdge extends the cloud native capabilities to the edge, not only realizes the cloud management and control of edge resources and services, but also provides edge application management capabilities, supporting multi-regional application deployment, regional autonomy, grayscale release, etc. A series of capabilities provide strong support for applications to realize edge nativeization.

After technical discussions in the community, this update mainly focuses on the improvement of adding edge nodes to clusters in batches from the cloud, logging in to edge nodes from the cloud for operation and maintenance, and further expanding the service group's multi-regional application capabilities to support cross-cluster multi-region scenarios. Details are as follows:

Support for adding edge nodes to the cluster in batches from the cloud

  1. The version introduces a CRD called NodeTask. Users only need to submit NodeTask resources to achieve the effect of adding and reinstalling edge nodes in batches. SuperEdge uses a cloud-native way to greatly improve the efficiency of adding and reinstalling edge nodes.
  2. This function has the ability to penetrate the internal network, and does not require that the added node can be accessed by the master node or externally, and it is targeted to deal with the situation where the node node can only connect to the master one-way in the edge scenario

Support SSH login from the cloud to the edge node for operation and maintenance

  1. The version upgrades the tunnel component. The tunnel-cloud in the cloud supports the proxy ssh protocol. Users can directly use the ssh-client in the cloud or even locally and log in to the specified edge node with the help of SuperEdge tunnel.
  2. This function specifically responds to situations where node nodes can only connect to the master one-way in edge scenarios, and it is inconvenient for users to log in to the edge node operation and maintenance directly from the cloud.

Extend ServiceGroup's edge application distribution capabilities to cross-cluster and multi-regional distribution

  1. Before v0.4.0, the application distribution capability of ServiceGroup was effective for a single cluster, and then it can support simultaneous management of applications in multiple regions under multiple clusters
