ApacheCon is the official global series of conferences of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). As a prestigious open source feast, ApacheCon has attracted much attention in the open source community and is also one of the well-known activities in the early days of the open source movement.

As early as 1998, before the establishment of ASF, ApacheCon had attracted participants at all levels to explore "tomorrow's technology" in more than 300 Apache projects and their different communities. Also in this session, developers who developed HTTPD services gathered together and decided to establish the Apache Software Foundation.

ApacheCon is held once a year, usually in Europe or North America. It is an excellent opportunity for Apache developers to communicate, discuss, and meet offline. It is also a rare occasion for sharing ideas and exciting ideas. Through hands-on practice, keynote speeches, actual case studies, training, hackathons, etc., showcase the latest development and emerging innovations of the Apache project.

This year, in order to better serve the fast-growing Apache users and contributors in the Asia-Pacific region, the ApacheCon Organizing Committee and the Apache Software Foundation are pleased to announce that the first ApacheCon online conference for the Asia-Pacific region will be held in August 2021. Held online from 6th to 8th.

In order to let everyone know more about open source and ApacheCon Asia, SegmentFault will interview some Track Chairs or conference lecturers to let you know the stories behind the preparations for the conference and the stories of these experts.

Fei Lianghong, Chief Architect of Amazon Cloud Technology. In the past 20 years, he has been engaged in the fields of software architecture, program development and technology promotion. He often gives speeches for sharing at various technical conferences, and he is also an enthusiastic participant in multiple technical communities. His areas of expertise include the development of web applications, mobile applications and machine learning, etc., and he has also been engaged in the design, development and project management of many large-scale software projects. Fei Lianghong’s first exposure to open source

I first came into contact with the Linux operating system in 1994, and I remember that the Linux distribution used at that time was Slackware. This should be the first open source software I used. Since then, in work, especially in software development. For example, the Linux operating system, VIM/Emacs editor, Python/Go/Rust programming language, MySQL, Spark and other projects I use now are the most important tools in my work.

When participating in open source and contributing to the Apache community, what are the personal and company gains?

It can be said that open source software has become an important cornerstone of cloud computing. The extensive use of open source software as a developer has helped the rapid growth and development of cloud computing; at the same time, the experience of applying open source software on the cloud is also feeding back the continuous maturity of open source software.

The "Apache Way" in my mind contains such content:

• Earn trust: Everyone has the opportunity to participate in the community. Everyone's influence comes from their contribution to the community. Through hard work, we can win the recognition and trust of the community.
• Equal participation: Participating in the community is an individual, not an organization behind the person. The flat structure of the community determines that the roles are equal regardless of the title. The community’s code of conduct requires mutual respect
• Open collaboration: The community is a virtual organization, all communication related to code and decision-making can be publicly accessed to ensure mutual collaboration

Fei Lianghong and ApacheCon Asia

The topic of my speech is Apache Hudi on AWS. Apache Hudi is an open source data management framework for simplifying incremental data processing and data pipeline development. I will introduce how to deploy and use Apache Hudi on the cloud, which can handle multi-read or multi-write use cases, and Hudi will use Apache Parquet and Apache Avro to manage the underlying data stored on S3 and other practices.

I hope the audience can understand how to use Apache Hudi in the cloud after listening to my sharing, such as processing streaming data from sensors and other IoT devices or implementing change data capture (CDC) systems.
