ApacheCon is the official global series of conferences of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). As a prestigious open source feast, ApacheCon has attracted much attention in the open source community and is also one of the well-known activities in the early days of the open source movement.
As early as 1998, before the establishment of ASF, ApacheCon had attracted participants at all levels to explore "tomorrow's technology" in more than 300 Apache projects and their different communities. Also in this session, developers who developed HTTPD services gathered together and decided to establish the Apache Software Foundation.
ApacheCon is held once a year, usually in Europe or North America. It is an excellent opportunity for Apache developers to communicate, discuss, and meet offline. It is also a rare occasion for sharing ideas and exciting ideas. Through hands-on practice, keynote speeches, actual case studies, training, hackathons, etc., showcase the latest development and emerging innovations of the Apache project.
This year, in order to better serve the fast-growing Apache users and contributors in the Asia-Pacific region, the ApacheCon Organizing Committee and the Apache Software Foundation are pleased to announce that the first ApacheCon online conference for the Asia-Pacific region will be held in August 2021. Held online from 6th to 8th.
In order to let everyone know more about open source and ApacheCon Asia, SegmentFault will interview some Track Chairs or conference lecturers to let you know the stories behind the preparations for the conference and the stories of these experts.

About Zhang Chao
Hello, everyone, I’m Zhang Chao, and I’m currently working at Shenzhen Zhiliu Technology Co., Ltd., mainly responsible for the company’s service grid and Cloud products; I am a PMC of Apache APISIX and an open source enthusiast. I have worked on projects such as OpenResty and ingress-nginx. contribute.
The story of Zhang Chao's first exposure to open source
I came into contact with open source when I was in the internship. My supervisor is a very technically pursued person, and he also brought me in contact with the OpenResty community and the people in this community.
When participating in open source and contributing to the Apache community, what are the personal and company gains?
For me personally, doing open source has allowed me to recognize more people, improve my technical vision, and get more opportunities to communicate with others.
For the company, because we are commercialized based on Apache APISIX, this also allows more people to understand our company and enhance the company's influence.
"The Apache Way" that Zhang Chao understands?
Attach importance to community building and every contributor and participant. The community is always greater than the code. A good community can make the project more quality.
Zhang Chao and ApacheCon Asia
My track is API & Microservices, and the topic of my speech is how to extend Apache APISIX as a sidecar of the service grid. Apache APISIX is a high-performance, fully dynamic cloud-native API gateway, but what it can do is not limited to the field of API gateways. This sharing will introduce how to extend Apache APISIX to the data side of the service grid. Car service, and the advantages brought by APISIX Mesh (such as better performance, unified north-south and east-west technology stack, etc.), and finally introduce the future development plan of APISIX Mesh.
I hope that the audience will understand more about Apache APISIX and the problems it can solve after listening to my sharing, so that there will be one more solution when selecting technologies in the future.
Join us in ApacheCon Asia!
This ApacheCon Asia conference will bring you many wonderful technology sharing, covering various fields, there is always one suitable for you, come and sign up!
