Today, we have the honor to invite Li Feifei, vice president of Alibaba Group, head of Alibaba Cloud Intelligent Database Product Division, and ACM outstanding scientist, to reveal the black technology behind the "cloud" of international sports events.

Q: As a data scientist, what data do you pay most attention to during the competition?

Li Feifei: As a data scientist, I care about some key indicators of major sports events. For example, in which country or region the sports event is held, the level of the competition, that is, how competitive the participating athletes are, how well they perform in the same kind of competition, whether they are in a leading position, what kind of performance the audience can expect them to perform in the competition, the key is What is the athlete’s past performance and so on.

In addition, as a data scientist, I also care about the physiological data of athletes, including their endurance, strength, movement speed, etc. These are key indicators for me and can predict their performance in the game. There are also environmental factors such as who the audience supports, weather conditions, and all factors that promote a successful competitive game.

Q: We all know that athletes have to go through years of hard training before they can participate in the competition. Can you share with us how our data technology can help athletes improve their performance during training, and how can we bring a better experience to the audience? * *

Li Feifei: We use data-driven data analysis in many different ways to guide decision-making and help athletes improve their performance during training.

For example, Intel and Alibaba provide connected tools for athletes. The technology is designed to bring deeper insights and make athletes' training more efficient. For example, in the 100-meter sprint race, we are using artificial intelligence to help athletes and their coaches obtain near-real-time insights and overlay visualization, so that commentators, coaches and trainees can use these insights.

The technology was developed by Intel's Silicon Valley headquarters and hosted on the Alibaba Cloud infrastructure. It combines computer vision technology, database technology and "3DAT" (3D Athlete Tracking). This technology uses a camera to capture the game in real time, uses a real-time algorithm to analyze the biomechanics of each sprinter's movement, and combines the data generated during the playback of the sprint event. This allows athletes, coaches and spectators to better enjoy the game, improve training plans, and make real-time data-driven decisions.

In addition to the "3DAT" technology, we also use a variety of data-driven technologies to help athletes, coaches and spectators improve their performance and viewing experience in large-scale sports events. For example, we will capture game-related data in real time and dump these data into the database. Inside the database, we perform complex analysis and real-time data processing to help event organizers, spectators, athletes, coaches and all participants enjoy the game better and make data-driven decisions. For example, how many spectators watch a game, what is the real-time weather conditions, and what is the time and space conditions related to the game. These not only combine the data-driven technology on the Alibaba Cloud infrastructure, but also the Internet of Things technology that connects athletes, spectators and the physical world so that they can better interact during the game. The combination of the above allows participants to have an unparalleled experience in a large-scale sporting event.
