On August 17, Spring officially announced that Spring Authorization Server has withdrawn from the experimental state and officially entered the product portfolio of the Spring project.

Spring Authorization Server was originally a community-driven project. It was started in Spring's experimental project and led by the Spring Security team. Its purpose was to provide OAuth 2.0 authorization server support for the Spring community and eventually replace Spring Security OAuth. The project used ZenHub to prioritize the functional roadmap and help organize the project plan.

Since the announcement of Spring Authorization Server in April 2020, it has implemented most of the OAuth 2.1 authorization protocol and provided moderate support for OpenID Connect 1.0. As the project enters the next stage of development, its focus will shift to advancing support for OpenID Connect 1.0.

Spring officially stated:

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the project and helped its development in such a short period of time. We are full of confidence in the cornerstone of the project currently being built, and are full of enthusiasm for Spring Authorization Server to enter the next life cycle. We look forward to continuing this work together and finally making Spring Authorization Server a standard for implementing OAuth 2 Authorization Server on the Java platform.

In addition, Spring Authorization Server version 0.2.0 is expected to be released this week, which is also its first official production version supported by Spring's new policy.
