About Apache BookKeeper
As a top project of the Apache Software Foundation, Apache BookKeeper is a storage service that optimizes real-time workloads and aims to ensure high durability, consistency, and low latency. BookKeeper has a variety of enterprise-level storage platform functions, such as supporting persistent, consistent, and fault-tolerant storage of data, effectively storing and accessing historical data and real-time data, etc., and is widely used in a variety of business scenarios, such as providing high availability for distributed systems Or multiple copies; provide cross-machine replication between single or multiple clusters (multiple data centers); provide storage services for messaging systems (such as Apache Pulsar); store immutable objects for stream work (such as snapshots of checkpoint data) Wait.
Recently, through the nomination and voting of the Apache BookKeeper PMC team, Zhang Yong, a development engineer from StreamNative, officially became the Apache BookKeeper Committer.
As we all know, StreamNative is a young team, but this does not affect the building of the StreamNative elite team, and Zhang Yong, as the youngest post-95 "tail single", is at the forefront of the team, confirming his excellent project ability.
StreamNative journey
Zhang Yong started his contribution to Apache Pulsar in February 2019. He has been focusing on Pulsar's storage, security, transaction and other related functions and features, and became a Pulsar committer. Along the way, he has continued to give back to the community and lead more people. Participate in the Apache Pulsar open source ecosystem.
As a "visionary" post-95, Zhang Yong joined StreamNative before graduating in 2019. The idea of "Stay at StreamNative in order to do interesting things" also laid the foundation for his current results. Zhang Yong believes that he has grown and learned a lot in StreamNative, which is mainly manifested in three aspects: collaboration, personal growth, and work accomplishment. Whether it’s the distributed office collaboration, the personal growth brought about by the English communication working environment, or the sense of accomplishment brought by the ability to communicate bugs directly with community users, Zhang Yong and StreamNative, as well as the Apache BookKeeper and Apache Pulsar communities have become more and more important. Close, more and more invested in the development of Apache BookKeeper and Apache Pulsar.
Become an Apache BookKeeper committer
Since 2011, BookKeeper has been incubated at the Apache Software Foundation and graduated in January 2015 as a top project of the Apache Software Foundation. In the past four years, companies such as Twitter, Yahoo, and Salesforce have used BookKeeper to store and serve important data, supporting many different scenarios.
Zhang Yong's main contributions to BookKeeper are:
• Provides a new admin tool-bkctl for BookKeeper;
• Migrate BookKeeper's CI from Jenkins to GitHub Actions;
•Improve and optimize BookKeeper and fix problems
......
It is no accident that Zhang Yong became BookKeeper committer. Now Zhang Yong has two resounding labels: youngest Apache Pulsar committer; #StreamNative is one of the engineers with the "dual title" of Apache Pulsar committer and Apache BookKeeper committer
Through these two points, we can see the tremendous energy in "Brother Yong" and the excellent corporate culture of "ability to speak" in StreamNative. Zhang Yong also often participates in the sharing of TGIP, Meetup and Webinar, and shares and exchanges the technical experience of Pulsar and BookKeeper with the community.
Finally, congratulations to Zhang Yong for becoming an Apache BookKeeper committer, and hope that he can make more achievements for the community and the company in the future, and make more contributions to Apache BookKeeper.
