Tencent releases K8s multi-cluster management open source project Clusternet

On November 4, at the Tencent Digital Ecology Conference, Tencent announced a major open source development in the cloud native field-the K8s multi-cluster management project Clusternet was officially open sourced.

Clusternet was co-sponsored by Tencent in conjunction with Multipoint Life, QQ Music, Futu Securities, WeBank, Kugou Music, Sanqi Mutual Entertainment, etc., focusing on the direction of K8s multi-cluster management and application governance, hoping to make multi-cluster management just like surfing the Internet simple.

As the technical cornerstone of distributed cloud in the future, Clusternet expands K8s through componentization and extends the powerful cluster, application and service capabilities of K8s to distributed clouds. It is compatible with all K8s ecological resources and software, and helps enterprises upgrade their applications to multi-cloud at zero cost. Architecture helps the transformation of traditional industries to the distributed cloud in the future. The Tencent Cloud Native Distributed Cloud Center TDCC product released by Tencent at this conference uses Clusternet as its core technology.

This open source is also derived from the summary and innovation of Tencent's internal multi-cluster governance experience, and is open sourced and shared through the Clusternet project. Tencent's internal star computing team has completed the management and control of nearly 10 million cores based on the multi-cluster solution.

Through Clusternet, regardless of whether the cluster is running on public cloud, private cloud, hybrid cloud or edge cloud, unified management and consistent access experience can be obtained, and the centralized deployment of K8s API and the coordinated scheduling of applications and services in multiple clusters can be achieved.

As a new generation of open source multi-cluster management software, Clusternet has unique advantages:

Lightest architecture

It adopts K8s AA (Aggregated APIServer) deployment method, does not rely on additional storage and ports, does not need to learn and maintain the differences of different platform software and systems, greatly reducing the complexity of operation and maintenance.

One-stop connection to various clusters

At the same time, it supports Pull and Push modes to manage K8s clusters, the first Dual mode to automate one-stop management of massive clusters. Even if there is no dedicated network channel, cross-cluster routing access can still be achieved.

Upgrade the multi-cloud architecture at zero cost

The original single-cloud single-cluster architecture business can be upgraded to a multi-cloud multi-cluster architecture with zero learning and transformation costs. It is fully compatible with K8s standard APIs, Helm Charts and custom CRDs, without the need to learn complex multi-cluster APIs.

Rich and flexible strategy configuration

Provides multiple types of configuration strategies, including distribution strategies, differentiation strategies, etc., through flexible collocation to meet complex business scenarios, reducing manual intervention and repetitive labor.

Convenient access

Clusternet provides complete docking capabilities, supports kubectl plugin and client-go, facilitates one-click access to services, and has the ability to manage multiple clusters.

Following the new design architecture of the cloud native concept, Clusternet is fully compatible with native K8s resources, facilitating rapid business integration and use. It also provides users with one-stop managed multi-cluster management and application governance services through Tencent Cloud’s native distributed cloud center TDCC products, and delivers mature and stable cloud services closer to users and data, ensuring long-term platform operation, governance, and Update and evolution, and provide reliability and safety compliance assurance.
