Origin

Taobao NPM mirror station (npm.taobao.org) has 2014 and . At the beginning, I just wanted to simply be a Chinese mirror site of NPM and give back to the domestic front-end community, but it has been running until now. In the same year, referring to the Ruby Gems Taobao mirroring method, I applied for the second-level domain name of taobao.org with the Alibaba open source organization. The name of the mirroring site was naturally named Taobao NPM mirroring station (hereinafter referred to as CNPM).

As shown in the figure above, from the official service provided by CNPM in 2014 to today, NPM packages have changed from 100,000 → 1.78 million, and the number of CNPM packages downloaded back to the source has changed from 100 million → 20 billion. This is only the amount of CDN back to the source station, which is the real download Just more.

can be said without humility that CNPM has witnessed the vigorous development of the domestic front-end in the past 8 years . In the future, we hope to continue to accompany Chinese front-end developers.

PS: Although most of the core participants are from large domestic manufacturers, CNPM itself is a neutral public welfare project, and the huge daily operation and maintenance costs come from community donations.

New set sail

With the vigorous development of the front-end, the amount of NPM package data and the complexity of the content are still accelerating, and the architecture of CNPM back then can hardly meet the current situation.

In order to provide a more stable, safer, and more in line with the requirements of national laws and regulations, we started the optimization of CNPM this year:

• starts a new domain name.
• Registry is fully refactored to improve stability and reduce synchronization failure rate.
• CLI optimization, improve installation speed, remove compatibility issues caused by soft connections.
• Precipitated from the use experience manual of enterprise-level large-scale applications.

Many developers should have discovered that visiting Taobao NPM will automatically redirect 301 to the npmmirror.com , which is our independently registered and filed domain name.

urge all developers who rely heavily on the old domain name to update to the new domain name as soon as possible. Enterprise users may also need to contact the network administrator/IT/SRE to update the firewall whitelist. Of course, if you are using cnpm's CLI command line tool, we will replace all of them and release a new version. You only need to reinstall to the minimum version.

We are well aware that it is a very bad experience to change the domain name and stop supporting the old domain name.
