On November 10th, at the hearing, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers rejected Apple’s request to postpone the implementation of the permanent injunction, which would require Apple to make major changes to the App Store.

Previously, Apple updated the Apple Store App Store policy to allow media application users to bypass the Apple Store and directly manage and pay for user accounts on the website of third-party application developers. This policy will take effect in early 2022 and apply globally.

But then Apple appealed the Epic Games case and applied for the suspension of the injunction that allowed developers to add links to payment websites in the app. If Apple is successfully granted an extension, the injunction may not be implemented until the appeal of the case is over, and the entire appeal process may take several years, and the high apple tax will always exist during the appeal.

In the initial ruling, Apple was given 90 days to implement these changes. Apple filed a request in October for more time. Apple hopes to wait until all appeals in the Epic v. Apple lawsuit are completed before implementing any new App Store features. The judge did not give Apple extra time to add the required App Store features, and Apple must make changes to the App Store before December 9.

Rogers asked Apple to allow developers to add links and buttons to external payment options without delay.

According to reports, after being rejected by Judge Rogers, Apple will appeal to the Ninth Circuit, requesting a suspension of the lawsuit. Apple believes that until all appeals in this case are resolved, additional business changes should not be required to take effect. Apple intends to request the Ninth Circuit to suspend enforcement based on these circumstances.
