On November 17, Microsoft announced the official launch of the Windows 10 November 2021 update (also known as Windows 10 version 21H2), and announced some update rhythm information, as well as news about the acceleration of Win11.
As expected, Microsoft will provide this update to users in batches in the next few weeks to ensure a reliable download experience for all users, so many users may not get the update immediately.
Windows 10 November 2021 update content:
- Add WPA3 H2E standard support to enhance Wi-Fi security
- Windows Hello for Business introduces a new deployment method called cloud trust to support simplified passwordless deployment and deploy to a running state within minutes
- GPU computing support in Windows Linux Subsystem (WSL) and Azure IoT Edge for Linux on Windows (EFLOW) deployments for machine learning and other computationally intensive workflows
Microsoft said that it is adjusting the update rhythm of the Windows system and plans to provide a feature update of Windows 10 once a year. The next major update thereafter will be launched later in 2022.
This update rhythm is consistent with the rhythm used by Windows 11, which will also introduce new features once a year.
Starting from the November 2021 update, Windows 10 will rename the service option released from "Semi-Annual Channel" to General Availability Channel (General Availability Channel).
Microsoft's commitment to future Windows 10 feature updates was made after the company remained silent on its plans at the Windows 11 unveiling ceremony earlier this year. However, it is still unclear what Microsoft will bring to Windows 10 in the future.
There are no important changes in this update. The only outstanding feature for users is the GPU computing support in Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).
Most of Microsoft's future Windows plans are for Windows 11, but the company will support at least one version of Windows 10 until October 14, 2025.
Before the end of the support period, we may see two or possibly three feature updates for Windows 10, but they may not be important updates.
It is reported that the native applications of Windows 11 will also arrive in Windows 10. Microsoft has begun to push the redesigned Windows Store to Windows 10 users, and applications such as photos and calculators are also undergoing transformation.
