The operating system is the core basic software, and its importance is the consensus of the industry. However, for related manufacturers and individual users, the potential risks of the current supply chain cannot be underestimated. At the end of 2021, the mainstream operating system software CentOS in the industry will cease to be maintained, which puts a large number of users in security risks.

As the concept of open source gradually gains popularity, Chinese companies are also transforming from open source users to open source contributors and even promoters. In this context, Tencent and its partners jointly initiated the launch of OpenCloudOS, an open source operating system community.

The community is committed to creating a completely neutral, fully open, safe, stable, and high-performance operating system and ecosystem. Complete neutrality means that there is no vendor label in the community, nor is it dominated by any single manufacturer; complete openness means that it can gather domestic and foreign operating system research and development forces, community members to make decisions through consensus, and build an ecosystem by industry-university-research.

Over ten years of field accumulation, unique technical characteristics

The operating system ecosystem vendors of OpenCloudOS have achieved large-scale scenario verification of more than 10 million nodes, which is enough to provide enterprises with stable and highly available services to meet the demanding business load. As one of the initiators of the OpenCloudOS project, Tencent will also contribute all its technology accumulation in the operating system field for more than 10 years to the OpenCloudOS community and fully support the construction and development of the community.

Promote operating system ecological equality under the foundation

As a domestic open source operating system community, OpenCloudOS accumulates the advantages of Tencent and many vendors in software and open source ecology. It has solid support in terms of cloud nativeness, stability, performance, and hardware support, and can support all hardware platforms equally and comprehensively. At the beginning of its establishment, OpenCloudOS decided to become a neutral community without vendor labels. In the future, it will become a member of the Open Atom Open Source Foundation.
