Recently, Whale Technology, the company behind JingOS, confirmed to members of the Telegram group that its company was laying off employees.

Chat records show that Whale Technology is encountering difficulties, so the size of the team has been reduced. And with the reduction of the company's staff, they will not be able to support the community as before, I hope you can understand.

In addition, they launched a New Year's deal on their tablet product JingPad, offering consumers a 45% discount, dropping the price from $699 to $384 with the code NEWYEAR.

Whale Technology has not made it clear the reason behind its layoffs, or what impact the move will have on the company, and despite canceling the development of an x86 version of JingOS, Whale said they will continue to provide support for ARM-based processors. JingPad A1 and other devices develop JingOS.

As for JingOS itself, it's an interesting operating system based on Ubuntu Linux with a custom user interface that borrows elements from KDE and KDE Plasma Mobile. The operating system supports desktop Linux applications as well as mobile Linux applications, and can be used as a touch-only device or with a keyboard, mouse and/or digital pen. Running some Android apps is also supported, but does not leverage existing open source projects such as Anbox or Waydroid for that functionality.

The JingPad A1 is a tablet computer with an 11-inch AMOLED display, Unisoc T7510 processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage space, and claims to be the world's first ARM-based consumer-grade Linux tablet, which is comparable to most tablets on the market. The real difference to the computer is that it comes with a custom Linux distribution called JingOS.
