We are pleased to announce the release of 1.2 Beta of the Automotive App Library to help app developers start building navigation, parking and charging apps for Android Automotive OS.
Developers can now start building and testing apps in these categories on Android Automotive OS and Android Auto using the Automotive OS emulator . See release note for a complete list of changes in the 1.2 beta release. To get started building your automotive application, you can check out our latest developer documentation , Automotive Application Quality Guide and Design Guide .
As previously announced , owners of Polestar 2 and Volvo Cars can now download charging developed using the Automotive App Library by joining Google Groups using their Gmail account and selecting Beta of each app on the Google Play Store ( ChargePoint , PlugShare ), parking ( Spothero , Parkwhiz ) and navigation ( Flitsmeister , Sygic ) applications.
Auto App Library apps on Android Automotive OS are rendered automatically, ensuring consistency with other experiences within each vehicle, with no additional work from the developer. E.g:

See for yourself how your app will behave on different systems by visiting the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) emulator system image that can be downloaded in Android Studio. You can start developing charging, parking, and navigation apps for Android Automotive OS today, and we're working hard to help you get your apps published to the Google Play Store in the coming months (stay tuned!).
Car-sharing drivers spend a lot of time on navigation and other apps, and if these apps can be loaded onto the car screen, drivers will enjoy safer interactions. We're working with Lyft and Kakao Mobility to bring their driver app experiences to vehicles in the coming months.
Another good news is that we are expanding support to all location check-in apps. In addition to charging and parking, apps are also allowed to help users discover and explore interesting locations on the map, and allow them to selectively navigate to those locations. We are working with MochiMochi, Fuelio, Prezzi Benzina and NAVITIME JAPAN who will be participating as our first partners.
