Microsoft Power Platform provides professional developers with rich extensions and tools to enhance the development experience. We are continually investing in the professional developer experience, not only for individual developers, but also to ensure that businesses can take advantage of all available application development skills.
Developers can easily extend Power Platform with rich tools for a smooth application development and automation experience. Upcoming updates range from deeper integration with Microsoft Azure to Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio extensions (Power Platform Tools). Follow us for an early look at the preview of new features!
Feature 1: Visual Studio Code tool extension
By installing the Visual Studio Code Tools extension, developers can now get the Microsoft Power Platform CLI and required dependencies directly from a single extension. Additional Microsoft Power Platform CLI capabilities further enrich the Visual Studio Code integration experience. These additional features include:
- Solution modification is supported when exporting solutions from Microsoft Power Platform to Visual Studio Code
- Support for decompressing canvas applications
- Multiplatform support on Microsoft Windows and Linux
- Support for Power Apps portal development
- Help developers get started faster with common commands exposed through the Visual Studio Code Command Palette
(This feature is planned to be officially released in February)
Feature 2: Cross-platform support for Microsoft Dataverse development
The next version of professional developer tools is cross-platform compatible. Developers will no longer need to use a PC to develop code-first components for Microsoft Power Platform, but can build on Windows and Mac, while using Linux-based agents for GitHub Actions and Microsoft Power Platform Build Tools.
(This feature is planned to be officially released in February)
Feature 3: Deeper integration with Azure API Management
Previously we introduced integration between Azure API Management and Microsoft Power Platform, enabling developers to export APIs directly from API Management to Microsoft Power Platform. With deeper integration, developers can now update connectors provided by Azure API Management and view connectors for instance services.
(This feature is planned to be officially released in March)
feature four: new theme support
In addition to the current color theme, we've added new theme support for code components built with the Power Apps component framework, including properties such as font and size. This update also includes Microsoft Teams themes, where themes are automatically passed to code components in Teams. This functionality will be available in canvas and model-driven applications and support building theme code components using the Microsoft Power Platform CLI.
(This feature is planned to be officially released in March)
