Yesterday, I saw that macOS pushed the 12.3 update. I remember that a "universal control" function was announced before, so I quickly upgraded and experienced it. The effect was amazing to me, and I quickly made a wave of Amway!
First of all, let me explain the current work situation in isolation at home. I mainly use two MacBook Pros, one is an old machine in 2017 (Intel), the other is a new machine in 2021 (M1 Pro), plus a 34-inch DELL monitor.
The layout is as follows:
Let's talk about some inconvenient points at present:
Switch between keyboard and mouse
DD now uses Logitech's MX Keys and MX Master sets at home and in the office. Because it supports Bluetooth to connect multiple devices, it can be switched in the following ways:
If you switch frequently, it will be more troublesome, and you have to press it back and forth. I have used Logitech's Flow function before, which can automatically switch the Bluetooth connection when the mouse is moved to different devices.
But after using it for a while, I felt it was not stable, and then I stopped using it.
file transfer
Sometimes, the content operated on one machine needs to be transmitted to another machine. Of course, there are many ways to implement it. You can pass:
- Communication software transmission
- U disk copy
- Shared folder
- NAS sync
DD is now using the synchronization function of Synology NAS, setting the folders to be synchronized on all machines, and automatically completing the synchronization of multiple devices, including: the two MacBook Pros here and the iMac in the office.
Although it has been able to solve the problem of file transfer, because of the existence of intermediate equipment, other costs need to be invested, so it still varies from person to person.
After using Universal Control
Let's talk about how to use the general control, and after using it, the improvement of the above pain points.
Before using Universal Control, you need to confirm the following:
- Whether the system has been upgraded to the latest version:
If you are using an iPad, you have to upgrade to iPadOS 15.4
- Sign in with the same iCloud account
Next go to "System Preferences"
Click on "Display" and you will see the "General Controls" button
Click the "General Control" button and check the function
Then in "Add Display", you can see other nearby Apple devices
After the addition is complete, you can find your currently linked device in the place below. Adjust their position by dragging
Click on the display settings, you can do other operations
keyboard and mouse switch
After enabling general control and adding monitors, you only need to move the mouse from the edge of the monitor of one device to another monitor according to the monitor layout you configured, and the keyboard will automatically switch to another monitor with the switch of the mouse. equipment.
The whole process is also very smooth, from now on you can switch the button of the device!
File Transfer
For file transfer, you can drag it to the screen of another device like the following to complete the copy operation.
Of course, you can also do it by copy-pasting. There is absolutely no need to rely on external devices to help with transmission. And the process is very smooth.
This wave of updates is very powerful, an absolute productivity boost! If you have multiple Apple devices, hurry up and upgrade!
By the way, if you are not an Apple user and want to achieve this efficient switching method. You can also try the Logitech Flow solution mentioned above by DD. I'm not sure if it's my use problem or it's really not so smooth. If you have a very smooth friend, you can leave a message for Amway.
