Recently, the discussion about Internet people being "graduated" has been pushed to the public again. In fact, this topic has been enduring for a long time, but it was more stuck on a certain age before, such as the so-called 35-year-old curse, and in the current economic environment, the risk of being "graduated" is no longer limited by youth, regardless of P level high and low.
Judging from my personal career development and entrepreneurial journey, I have always felt that age should not be a stumbling block on the road to employment. Regardless of the late waves or seniors, the most important thing for professionals in the workplace is how to continuously improve their core competitiveness.
Taking this opportunity, I would also like to talk to you about how I view career choices at different stages and Rongyun's view on talents.
Rookies in the workplace: Stay curious, don't be afraid of the long road ahead
When we are confused about career development, we may ask ourselves, what is the value and meaning of my life? Why am I doing this in this place?
This question is often asked when we are not happy doing the job.
Why are we not happy?
Maybe we don't like this job, it's just a means of making a living; or as time goes on, the factors that made us like it at the beginning fade;
The truth is, most of us aren't so sure what we like to do, so experiment a little, especially when you're young.
So my first piece of advice for rookies in the workplace is to experiment with possibilities in the first few years of their careers.
First of all, feel the different corporate culture , state-owned enterprises, foreign enterprises, institutions, government agencies and so on. Every place has a different corporate culture, and even if there are no obvious preferences at first, you can probably determine a personal preference after experimenting.
Second, try different types of jobs , such as R&D, product manager, project management and other positions. In the process of trying, you can see if you like it or not.
By experimenting with more possibilities early in your career, you can more likely determine what kind of work you like and what kind of work is relatively happier to do, and generally happier jobs are more successful.
I know a lot of really good programmers who do two things at home on weekends - play games and write programs. It's not that the company asked him to write programs, he just liked it. Usually such a person rarely asks what meaning and value are because he is happy.
My second piece of advice is to focus, be enthusiastic, stay motivated and avoid getting into your comfort zone too early.
When we have chosen a direction, we must stay focused, enthusiastic, and do every moment well.
On the one hand, enthusiasm and focus can help us avoid a lot of noise and obstacles in the workplace, let us pay more attention to how to solve problems and precipitate methodology in the process.
On the other hand, focus and enthusiasm are the keys to our professional growth drive, and we grow every time we try to get things right.
Also, we need to be wary of entering our comfort zone too early. Outside our comfort zone, we experience more freshness and are motivated to take on challenges, which is when we grow rapidly and truly produce.
As Rockefeller said: "I often try to solve problems that are far beyond my ability. I think carefully, and once I decide, I will take action and execute it firmly."
Workplace Veterans: With Treasures
There are many news about layoffs in big factories this year. In comparison, the elderly in the workplace may be more anxious than the young.
But if you were to ask me if I would hire a 40+ year old developer veteran, my answer would be, yes.
What problems can arise as a person ages that may affect job performance? It may be less receptive to new things, or it may become "worldly" and less willing to devote itself to ideals.
But everyone will experience these, and this wave of people should not be given up because of this. I tend to think that this is more of a problem that companies need to consider at the management level, such as how to create a corporate culture and rules and regulations to avoid these effects.
Workplace veterans have indispensable advantages. The more professional they are, the more valuable they are. Especially in some technical fields, talents can only be cultivated after years of accumulation, and even in some industries, I think older age is a necessary threshold.
So workplace veterans don't need to worry too much about their jobs. But there is a premise that the professional must be excellent.
Concentrate on learning and cultivate your own "diamond", while maintaining enthusiasm for learning and sufficient self-driving force. The aging of the population is getting worse and worse. Even the elderly in the workplace over the age of 40 are still a long time away from retirement. They can still regard themselves as "newcomers" in the workplace, keep curiosity, keep learning, and identify a goal with tenacity. Go forward.
Selection: What matters is "experience", not "experience"
One is from a famous school and has no project experience, and the other has a project on GitHub that performs well without the endorsement of a famous school or a famous company. Which one would I prefer?
My answer is that it depends on ability, not education.
When recruiting, famous schools do have an advantage, because entering a famous school is the result of screening through the college entrance examination, and it is also an endorsement of learning ability.
But if everyone has three or four years of work experience, then the difference is not so obvious whether they are from a famous school or not. In addition to evaluating basic abilities, we will look at his experience more.
It's an experience, not just an experience.
I think experience more reflects a person's skill map, and experience is to see a person's thinking logic and method precipitation.
Speaking of experience, more people will summarize "how to succeed". Experience, on the other hand, includes the choices people make in the face of difficulties and the gains in the face of failure, which are more important.
Finally, I would like to briefly share which talents Rongyun focuses on.
On the one hand, for new projects and new directions, we need talents with rich experience and deep skills in certain professional fields to help us develop new fields.
Rongyun is a technology company in the rapid development stage, focusing on the field of communication cloud, in addition to the traditional IM instant messaging and RTC real-time audio and video PaaS services, creatively provide integrated solutions for various industries. Begins with instant messaging, "more than instant messaging", is focused enough, and insists on continuous innovation.
On the other hand, in some mature fields, we focus on talents with strong learning ability and innovation ability. If a mature field wants to continue to develop, it must seek new breakthroughs, which requires the ability to learn, organize and analyze, and has higher requirements for a person's learning ability, abstract generalization, innovative imagination, etc.
Rongyun's corporate culture is relatively loose and does not limit innovative ideas. For example, the scenario-based SDK is an innovative idea proposed by the product department. It extracts a new product model from the scenarios of in-depth cloud-integrated services such as chat rooms and live broadcasts. It has developed into the next stage of communication cloud manufacturers. The direction of the industry supply mode is directly pushed to the next era. These are born in a culture of permissiveness, a culture that encourages innovation.
Rongyun advocates teamwork. It does not see things as difficult, but as great. It helps team members to establish this perspective. When things happen, they do not shirk the blame.
Of course, Rongyun gives enough respect to every employee and provides a relatively free development space as much as possible. I myself also advocate that people who hear the gunfire make decisions, so in Rongyun, front-line employees also have a relatively large freedom of decision-making.
Most importantly, after 8 years of reserve, Rongyun has gathered many professionals in different directions, and will also provide more learning opportunities and growth models for new students.
Finally, back to myself, I have been in Rongyun for 6 years, and I am still challenging new positions and new directions. I think it is very interesting and enjoyable. If you also like challenges and like to work with a group of people who like challenges, you are welcome to try Rongyun.
