On April 29, DevLake, an open source R&D data platform, passed a voting resolution and officially became an incubation project of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF).

After entering the incubation period, Apache DevLake will follow The Apache Way[1], under the guidance of mentors, adhere to the concept of people-oriented, community above code, and continue to build an inclusive, diverse and knowledge-oriented community.

As an open source R&D data platform, DevLake provides software R&D teams with automated, one-stop data collection, analysis, and visualization capabilities, helping R&D teams better understand the development process with the help of data, and identify key bottlenecks and efficiency opportunities.

Main features

  • Collect DevOps full-process performance data and connect data silos
  • Standard R&D data models and out-of-the-box performance metrics
  • Flexible data collection and processing framework that supports customization

future plan

Technology and products:

  • Enhance system scalability and improve system performance in large-scale data scenarios
  • Integrate more data sources to cover the entire software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • The data storage layer supports OLAP database, providing users with more choices
  • Build a scenario-based R&D data analysis Dashboard with users to achieve further out-of-the-box use

Community building:

  • Organize a variety of community activities, actively conduct online and offline technical evangelism, and attract more users, developers and open source enthusiasts to participate in the DevLake community
  • Create an open and friendly communication environment, improve and enrich the DevLake related content system, improve user documentation and contribution guidelines, lower the threshold for users to use and participate, provide more timely responses to the community, actively interact with users, solve user problems and further promote the project iterate
  • Actively cooperate with other open source projects and communities, let more ecological partners understand and participate in the DevLake community, and jointly build a prosperous ecosystem

Why join the ASF Incubator

First of all, DevLake believes that The Apache way is the way to succeed in the community. The concepts of people-oriented openness and community above code will help DevLake grow healthily and continuously.

After entering the incubation period, DevLake expects to have a deeper understanding of The Apache Way and put it into practice under the guidance of mentors, and continue to build an inclusive, diverse and knowledge-oriented community.

Second, DevLake is related to data infrastructure, which is highly aligned with the concerns of the Apache Foundation. DevLake looks forward to developing and building an ecosystem together with other big data open source projects in the Apache ecosystem.

Instructor's message

Jiang Ning: I am very happy to be the open source incubation leader of DevLake and help DevLake to join the ASF incubator. DevLake focuses on solving the pain points of data collection and R&D bottleneck analysis in the field of software R&D. Small partners who are interested in improving the efficiency of software research and development are welcome to participate in the use and development of DevLake, and build a prosperous and developing community ecosystem together.

Zhang Liang: Welcome to DevLake, a new member of the ASF incubator. It will make the development of the field of engineering performance more open and prosperous, which in turn will promote the standardization process of the whole field. Welcome more contributors to participate in the ASF community, hope DevLake will graduate soon!

Dai Lidong: I am very glad to see DevLake join the ASF incubator. DevLake is a platform designed for development teams to analyze and improve engineering productivity. We welcome all development partners to join us to make the DevLake community more prosperous and become a top-level project as soon as possible!

Guo Sijie: Congratulations to DevLake for entering the ASF Incubator. This is a big step for DevLake to go global. We look forward to more technology enthusiasts and users to join us and build prosperity together. I wish the community to rapidly grow into a top-level project and become the mainstay of the R&D data platform.

How can I get involved in the Apache DevLake community?

The development of DevLake is inseparable from the support of community users. Everyone is welcome to participate in community construction, so that DevLake will become more and more alive!
