Recently, California-based start-up open source team ZincSearch announced that it has received a seed round of $3.6 million, led by Nexus Venture Partners, and joined by Dell Technology Capital, Secure Octane, and Cardinia Ventures. Abhishek Sharma, managing director of Nexus Venture Partners, will join ZincSearch's board of directors.
Zinc is a modern search engine written in Go language. It uses a single binary file without any dependencies. It can be deployed to a server or run locally within one minute. It supports k8s and Helm cloud environment deployment, and supports S3 and minIO object storage. It comes with a user interface written in VueJS, which can quickly complete data query, index, template and user management.
Compared with mainstream search engine solutions such as Elasticsearch and Apache Solr, Zinc's resource requirements are much lower, and Zinc's V2 API is compatible with most Elasticsearch APIs and can be used as an ES alternative. Up to now, Zinc supports HTTP API access, supports Filebeat, Fluent-bit data collection solutions, and can be connected to the Grafana interface system.
According to ZincSearch's official website, it was founded by Prabhat Sharma, a former Amazon AWS solution architect. Zinc started out as an open source project on GitHub and has amassed 7,900+ GitHub Stars in just five months, making it one of the fastest growing open source enterprise projects over the past 12 months.
Prabhat Sharma disclosed through social media that Zinc is still in the Alpha stage, but plans to release a general version within three to six months, and strive to provide cloud services by the end of the year.
