Ten Years of Friends | @Peter Tan: On the road to programming, dreams are more important

Today, ten years ago, SegmentFault was officially established, like a young green shoot that began to grow. During this period, it carried the warm sunlight, bathed in the soft spring breeze, challenged the torrential rain, and experienced the bitter winter snow. Fortunately, the SegmentFault Sifu presented to us today has grown into a big tree that can withstand some wind and rain. This kind of growth cannot be separated from the pruning of the administrators, and it is also inseparable from the planting of every user in the community.

In the past ten years, thousands of developers have joined the SegmentFault community. We are excited to see every new face, and we are also moved by the old friends in the community who have accompanied them for many years. It's like meeting an old friend who has known each other for many years. Maybe old friends will suddenly disappear in a certain period of time, but disappearing does not mean never seeing each other again, but the sentence after the reunion: long time no see.

Today, we are honored to invite our old friend @PeterTan to participate in our 10-year Friends series interview.

I have something to say:

Compared with the other teachers I interviewed, Mr. Tan is special in many ways. He says he never wears a plaid shirt, and that his biggest anxiety is involution, answers I've heard for the first time in this series of interviews.

I think Mr. Tan is surrounded by a lot of anxiety, but whether it is "involution anxiety" or "age anxiety", it will not easily affect him, because he is very concerned about himself and the industry he is in. He has very clear perceptions, which urge him to improve himself and also build his self-confidence.

1. Do you remember your first acquaintance with SegmentFault? What kind of coincidence did you step into this community?

I remember finding it on a friend's computer. He said: I like the community style of Sifu, and the content is good, especially the question and answer module, so I can come to Soso if I have front-end questions in the future. I went back and signed up for Sifu that day, so I started this journey.

2. Have you witnessed any changes in Sifu over the years? Which part of it touched you the most? On the way to grow up with Si, what do you think you have changed?

These years have witnessed the growth and change of Sifu, and the most important thing is to grow with Sifu. The origin of the name Sifu: independent thinking, daring to deny, and later became a motto in my life.

3. Why did you choose to be a programmer? Because of the dream or because of the reality, which one is more important?

When I was in junior high school, I bought a computer at home and let me learn programming, but at that time, forums like Sifu had not yet emerged, and there were very few learning materials. In addition, the computer configuration was very poor, and JAVA could only use one console to output some logs. It was very boring, so I gave up for a short time, and started working in this industry after college. It comes from the love in the bones. When I was in junior high school, I wanted to make a great project/program for many people to use. Dreams are more important.

4. If one day you decide to give up programming due to various factors, what do you want to do?

I might open a restaurant

5. The image of a programmer is inseparable from plaid shirts, black-rimmed glasses, backpacks and other items in the minds of many people. What do you want to say about this stereotype?

I’m not. I never wear a plaid shirt, black-rimmed glasses, and occasionally a backpack. I’ve seen many programmers who are very good at taking care of themselves. Reasonable people, whether they are programmers or not, will not take care of themselves

6. Is programming just a job for you? If not, what special meaning does it have for you?

no. In the company, you may be responsible for the front-end project structure and quality of the entire company, so it is difficult to divide this work task into a degree, and it is more a matter of inner responsibility to drive yourself to do a better job. If you are doing projects with friends, it is more likely to realize your dreams

7. Is there anything that worries you at work? Where does this anxiety come from? What do you usually do when faced with anxiety?

Inside volume. The domestic working environment is too harsh, there is no way. Especially the involution of the Internet, the key point is that many programmers' involution is meaningless, but you have to resist properly, which is a worry/anxiety. As the saying goes, don't be afraid of two fools, just be afraid of two fools who have dreams and toss. In the face of this kind of thing, I will respond appropriately and speak with strength. In addition, I personally think that my work is growing very fast, and I have the ability to work across multiple industries and web3 remote jobs. I use this model to face domestic work. Involution (that is, do not do low-level involution, the higher the level, the less involution).

8. Age has a certain influence on the profession of programmers. Do you agree with this point of view? Have you thought about your future career plans?

identify. There are few core technologies in China, so it is easy to be replaced. My career future is very clear, I have devoted myself to globalization, and I have worked hard to prepare for these five words.

9. Please leave your wishes for the 10th birthday of the SegmentFault community

The best time to plant a tree was ten years ago, followed by now. This sentence is very relevant to the SegmentFault Sifu community. The Sifeo community is one of the few communities in China that has maintained a good reputation and has been standing for ten years. In the process of talking with Mr. Tan, I found that he is indeed a person who has control over all aspects of his career. This kind of control can never be exercised overnight. It is the accumulation of years of experience. It is also a testament to the rough road.
