Financial work is different from other jobs. Numbers are your daily companion, and tables are your friend. The slightest mistake will cause huge losses. This issue of "ONES Characters" walks into a mysterious financial position and invites financial BP Chen Ze for an interview.
He graduated from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2016, majoring in administrative management, and took elective courses in finance and accounting during the university. After graduation, he entered KPMG, one of the "Big Four", to do audit work. In order to achieve self (bu) me (zai) value (jia) value (ban), he will leave at the end of 2020 and join ONES in mid-2021.
In the words of a colleague, he is a "professional knowledge research controller". In order to thoroughly study a data indicator, he must understand everything he sleeps and sleeps. Let's take a look at the explosive growth of this rigorous yet lovely financial boy.
ONES character: What is the difference between ONES and your last job?
Chen Ze: The biggest difference is that the work content is wider. After joining ONES, what I have done is not limited to the audit of financial data, but more closely to the business, conducting business substantive analysis, business risk prevention and internal control construction, etc.; I am also responsible for the business of the monthly business analysis meeting The presentation of financial data, including the summary and analysis of business conditions, the analysis and disassembly of business models, budget monitoring and analysis, etc., helps the management to clearly grasp the company's operating conditions, and also provides historical and peer data support for future business directions and strategies.
At the same time, it also means frequent communication with business units. In ONES, externally, it is necessary to connect with investors, banks, and external auditors; internally, it has cooperation and communication with various departments such as sales, operations, production and research. To be honest, it was definitely not smooth at the beginning. I understand that he does not understand. What he is good at may be my blind spot. We need to constantly explain and run in. Of course, this kind of communication barrier is normal, and the most important thing is to consider it from the other side's standpoint. I still enjoy the process of communication, I can have a deeper understanding of the business, and also broaden the field of knowledge.
In addition to communication, there is less overtime at ONES and less pressure. In the past, I was so busy at the "Big Four" that I worked overtime for more than 50 days in a row. At the latest, I turned off the computer at four or five in the morning, and I didn't have a complete day off. Now there is more time to think and develop some hobbies.
ONES Character: At that time, you were majoring in administration and management in college. Why did you choose to do finance?
Chen Ze: Simply put, "a flyer starts a career." When I was in high school, I didn't like physics very much. The only requirement for choosing a major was not to study physics, so I chose the administrative major by mistake. One day, I came across a flyer on the school's bulletin board. It was a flyer for the ACCA (British Certified Accountant) course. The feeling at the moment is that it must be much more interesting than my major, and I want to give it a try. This is how I entered my financial career.
For the first three years of university, I had to take classes every weekend. In addition to my own final exam for my major, I also needed to take the ACCA exam, which took a lot of time. But looking back now, I am still very suitable for financial work: first, I have the patience to analyze data, and I am willing to take the time to study the application of new standards and regulations; second, I am very efficient at work and never miss deadline (probably a skill cultivated from the "Big Four" with too many deadlines and unlimited overtime). So, I'm grateful for the opportunity that flyer gave me to meet a field I love and I'm willing to work hard for it.
ONES character: I heard that you are a "research controller", how do you study your professional knowledge?
Chenze: For professional knowledge, I have a strong desire to explore. Especially now that this job is a cross-industry, there are a lot of things to learn, and we must spare no effort to understand it.
What impressed me the most was that before ONES's first business analysis meeting, because we needed to analyze the company's business conditions in combination with the industry's general business model, I checked and referenced a large number of industry research reports and listed company data, and finally presented the company through the data. The operating status in multiple stages such as R&D, marketing, and delivery has given everyone a more vivid and comprehensive understanding of the company's operation. After get off work at 10 o’clock that day, I still went through all the business indicators like a movie, thinking about whether there is a more reasonable way to present the data. After having this experience, I will dig deep into various industry indicators in the monthly business analysis meetings in the future, and polish the data to be more precise and more in line with the company's operating conditions.
ONES Character: What kind of person are you in your life?
Chenze: I'm a surfing expert, so I'll be right if you ask me about gossip and entertainment news in the industry. Since I usually watch a lot of TV dramas and have a good memory, I also adjust the atmosphere from time to time at work - for example, a line or lyrics suddenly pop out to lighten the atmosphere and cause laughter. The working atmosphere should not be lifeless. After all, the work is already very tiring. I will adjust it when I can joke.
Usually, I love music very much, I love to listen to retro, rock, pop, jazz and so on. My favorite singer is Taylor Swift. I will collect every version of her album. Her songs can be said to have influenced my entire school days. Every time I want to lie down and hear her voice, I feel like I can do it again!
When I was in the "Big Four", I often thought about the development prospects of financial work. Many traditional financial work is gradually being replaced by artificial intelligence. I can't help thinking: I am a science student, why didn't I learn the now popular computer? Career development may be much better than it is now. However, looking back on my past study and work life, I still appreciate and cherish everything I have experienced, and in my current work, I also realize that many of our outputs and creations cannot be replaced by AI. The road of seeking knowledge means eternal tiredness and occasional surprises. The same is true of work and life, so we should still live in the moment and enjoy life.
