Leaders, distinguished guests, media friends at the scene, and online friends, good morning! Welcome to the 2022 Ocean Base Annual Conference. Today, I have a lot of thoughts I want to share with you, and I have a lot of new progress to report to you. The title of my report today is "Small is Big, Building the Core Competitiveness of Enterprises" . Looking back on the past year, it has been a year of pressure for all walks of life. It is like moving forward in the wind and waves. The impact of the epidemic and external changes has put us under unprecedented pressure. Even so, both individuals and organizations have shown great resilience and vitality this year, withstood the pressure and moved forward.

Ocean Base is also facing many difficulties, but it has also achieved gratifying results. Today, I will simply share with you.

First of all, in the financial industry, OceanBase is becoming the first choice for full-stack upgrades in the financial industry. More than 1/4 of financial clients have started to use OceanBase to upgrade their core systems. As shared by the guests just now, a group of financial institutions have used OceanBase in the core system for the full stack and have been running stably for more than a year. OceanBase has not only become their primary choice for the first batch of pilots that year, but also today is their primary choice for core system upgrades .

Second, in the field of government and enterprises. I talked to Liu Chu just now, and he was surprised to say that China Welfare Lottery is also your customer. I said yes, we cover operators, transportation, energy, electricity, public security and more industries.

Third, the public cloud. The public cloud has developed very rapidly this year. We have achieved a 300% increase in customer revenue. OceanBase's public cloud has become the second growth engine, and it is also our focus in the future. It will bring great growth to OceanBase's future business growth. imagination space.

Fourth, open source. After more than a year of hard work, we have connected more than 30,000 community developers and gained more than 4,500 likes. We have more than 100 small partners who have started to contribute code to OceanBase, and we have also gained a lot of open source customers. . Such activity is equivalent to the activity of the top-level Apache project for two years. Open source is our strategic direction. We continue to invest in the documentation of products in the community to continuously improve the usability and applicability of OceanBase open source products.

OceanBase is moving from finance to all walks of life

After talking about various industries, let's take a look at the structure. After two years of development, OceanBase has undergone very subtle changes. You may know that OceanBase was incubated in the financial industry, but the proportion of financial and non-financial income from last year. 65%: 35%, this year It has been evenly divided, and more and more non-financial customers have begun to use OceanBase. The structure of our customers has changed from 34%: 66% of large and small customers to now Sanqikai, and more and more small and medium-sized customers have begun to use OceanBase. Various indicators show that OceanBase has transformed from a financial-level distributed database that was only applicable to the current year to a fully-universal, full-scenario general-purpose database for the cloud era, and has completed its transformation.

With the growth of the number of customers, the database has to deal with the challenges from different customers. Because financial customers are the lifeblood of the economy, stability must be the primary premise for all businesses, and government and enterprise businesses must deal with the diversification of thousands of industries. , coupled with the increase in the amount of data brought about by black swans in recent years, high performance has become a top priority. In the public cloud industry, more and more small and medium-sized enterprises are very sensitive to the entire operating cost. No matter who the customer is or how the pain point changes, the database must do one thing, and a database must meet the differentiated requirements.

No matter how the macro environment and micro environment change, product power is always the foundation of OceanBase. The unique originality + self-research model is the foundation for us to cope with all changes. This mentality is consistent with the current mental state of a large number of Chinese enterprises. Based on high-quality product capabilities, we can address the pain points of customer differentiation through rapid product iteration and optimization, and provide product solutions tailored to local conditions. The client has shared many cases just now, and I will briefly share with you our practice and experience from the perspective of the industry. You have heard a lot of cases in the financial industry. OceanBase is also derived from Alipay. The financial industry has always been our area of expertise. With the increasingly complex international situation, localization has become an irresistible trend in this industry. Since the financial industry involves the lifeblood of finance, it values reliability and self-controllability the most. The most critical point that distinguishes OceanBase from other manufacturers is that it is fully self-developed, and the fully controllable code fundamentally ensures the reliability of the entire system. After the system is upgraded, they start the full-stack upgrade when the entire core system leaves, such as Hongta, etc. This trend will become the most important trend in the financial industry in the future. To give a few examples, in the government and enterprise industry, we all know that the development of e-government has become more and more in-depth. In addition to the centralized capabilities mentioned just now, we also provide a cloud solution with multiple regions. , to accelerate the process of digital transformation of the industry. In addition, OceanBase has also entered the field of intelligent manufacturing. In recent years, China's economy has shifted from high-speed development to a high-quality development process. The manufacturing industry has moved from traditional manufacturing to intelligent manufacturing. In the past few years, Li Auto has used OceanBase in his new-generation MES system. We have provided him with functions such as automatic disaster recovery, intelligent operation and maintenance, and helped enterprises like Li Auto to realize driverless driving on the database system of intelligent production.

For start-ups and fast-growing enterprises, with the growth of business scale, they must not only face the impact of massive data, but also effectively control costs. How to balance the two is the most common problem faced by CIOs of such enterprises. OceanBase helps a large number of start-ups and fast-growing enterprises to control costs, reduce costs, increase efficiency and develop healthily through the capabilities of high tenants and elastic scaling on the public cloud.

Product power is the foundation of OceanBase

After two years of practice and a lot of communication with customers, the entire OceanBase team is very confident in its own product capabilities. We also realize that the investment in database product capabilities not only solves the immediate problems of customers, but also needs help and thinking to solve long-term solutions. Potential problems. After communicating with customers, we believe that there are three very big problems.

First, there are multiple scenarios. We all know that the requirements of core systems and non-core systems in the same enterprise are very different. Even if it is the same system, whether it is a core system or a non-core system, its requirements will be different at different stages of development. Today it may It's just a very marginal system, and it needs to carry a lot of data and a lot of concurrency after half a year. In such a process, customers will adopt different product solutions, which will bring huge complexity to the migration of future upgrade and transformation data. How to shield the needs of different scenarios in one product is one of the potential challenges. one.

Second, go to the cloud. We all know that in the advancement of the digitalization process, going to the cloud has become an inevitable trend, but different cloud vendors have different product forms, API capabilities, and product capabilities. In the later stage of an enterprise's development, products from multiple cloud vendors are often used, and the hybrid cloud architecture of private cloud and public cloud is used to give full play to the computing advantages of the cloud. How to shield customers from this complexity as infrastructure software is also a potential long-term challenge.

Third, mix loads. With the launch of some core systems, customers' attention will shift from how to support these systems for online operation to how to support the system to operate well online. Therefore, this system will carry and face the continuous expansion and expansion of online trading systems at the same time. At the same time, it has to carry and consider how to deal with the challenges of real-time data analysis. At this time, many vertical solutions and combinations of different products and technologies have been formed. This complexity also makes the use cost and operating cost of customers extremely high. How to continuously reduce the complexity of customers in these areas. OceanBase adheres to the concept of "simple for customers and complex for ourselves". In the past, these points have also been the direction of our continuous improvement of product strength.

The above are extremely challenging business problems, and I have listed some data here, which are also the challenges we have made for these problems. These long-term potential problems cannot be solved by simply assembling and combining model innovations. We must face the problems themselves and complete "root innovation" through refactoring of the underlying code and technological breakthroughs. In the past year, we have invested a lot of manpower, more than 300 engineers, more than 300 days and nights, countless discussions, and even we have modified nearly 800,000 lines of code in the process, what is this concept, a MySQL The amount of code in version 5.6 is nearly 660,000 lines, and we have almost changed the amount of MySQL in more than a year.

The OceanBase 4.0 era officially opened

Historically, OceanBase has undergone three major architectural upgrades during its evolution: the first major transformation was OceanBase from version 0.1 to version 0.5, which implemented a single-write-multiple-read architecture; the second major transformation was from version 1.0 to version 3.0 , and from 3.0 to 4.0, OceanBase truly becomes a general-purpose database for the cloud era.

Today I announce that OceanBase has officially opened the 4.0 era! OceanBase 4.0 is the industry's first database with a single-machine distributed integrated architecture. It can be said that such a technological breakthrough is a major breakthrough and innovation in the database field. Every breakthrough of OceanBase is inseparable from the support of customers.

You have heard a lot of small fish from the beginning to now, but you may not understand what small fish means. Let me give you a simple interpretation: Xiaoyu is the codename of version 4.0.

Twelve years have passed, OceanBase has always been known in the industry for "tackling large-scale scenarios", and 4.0 is our ability to have large-scale processing capabilities and the performance comparable to traditional stand-alone databases, and supports customers in small-scale applications. In the scenario of stand-alone deployment, we have given this very unusual and meaningful name - Xiaoyu.

This version represents all our attempts at miniaturization, and it also means the transition from distributed to single-machine distributed, so that OceanBase can truly expand on demand. From 0 to 1 to N, we have carried out a brand new version of Xiaoyu. Architecture design, our self-developed dynamic log stream technology greatly reduces the entry threshold of hardware, reduces the overhead of database resources, and can perform high-performance and stable operation in the production environment with a minimum support of 4C8G. I took the Raspberry Pi that the guest used to start up. It is very small, but today's OceanBase can already be deployed on the world's smallest Raspberry Pi, so this version really starts our process of miniaturization , truly interpreting the concept of "small is the big", let us truly move towards a new era of small is the new big.

Simply give you some technical interpretation. Through continuous technological innovation, Xiaoyu explores the technical ceiling, bridges the gap between traditional centralized architecture and distributed architecture, and breaks the limitation that distributed databases can only be used in large-scale scenarios. Through miniaturization, users can really start from small-scale single-machine deployment to ultra-large distributed clusters, which means that we have the ability to support the growth of user business scale from small to large, and can support and accompany enterprises from the start-up stage to the high-growth stage. All the way to a mature enterprise.

Second, through the multi-cloud capability, we bring higher flexibility and higher cost performance to the use of database services, and truly realize the ability of a system to support transaction processing and real-time data analysis at the same time. The problem of fundamentally maintaining data consistency by truly supporting different workloads through a single piece of data was also mentioned in Mr. Xiao's sharing just now. The triple strategic upgrade of developers, ecology and services

I talked about a lot of customer challenges just now. Let’s take a look at the industry side, what challenges are faced by the development of database companies, I think there are three points, namely developers, ecology and services. There is still a big gap between Chinese database manufacturers and overseas excellent enterprises. This is also the focus of OceanBase's continuous efforts. We must create all-weather and full-life-cycle services to meet the needs of each customer.

First of all, in terms of industrial synergy, the development time of China's database industry is not short, but today it has not formed a good industrial-level synergy, and the entire input resources and ecology are still relatively fragmented. I think it is a normal development process. In the future It also requires the joint efforts of our manufacturers, regulatory authorities and customers. We look forward to one day being able to create an ecological industry chain with a truly synergistic and prosperous database like China's mobile phone industry chain and new energy vehicle industry chain. It has greatly promoted the development of the entire industry. We also have important measures for developers and open source. The road to open source must be an important part of making the database bigger and stronger. I will talk about these changes separately.

First, OceanBase will make services its core competitiveness. In the past few years of accumulation and precipitation, we have already provided enterprise-level services with full links and full life cycles. We have formed a circle of links from consulting to delivery services, to escort and expert services, and today we are putting more effort into how to turn these services into wider coverage. We provide a large number of certified The standard service of the ecological partner can cover more areas of the country and provide 24/7 services in core cities.

The second is user-controllable autonomous services. It is better to teach a man how to fish than to teach him how to fish. Regarding open source, I would also like to announce a very important policy upgrade. With the release of the 4.0 architecture, we will further open source the core code of OceanBase.

The future strategy is: first, we will open all functions related to MySQL; second, our enterprise version and community version will have the same performance, both in terms of TP and AP. In the follow-up version of 4.0 in the future, we will gradually align the release rhythm of the two versions, which means that when an enterprise version of 4.0 is released, an open source version will be released, which is completely synchronized.
