Hello everyone, I am very happy to share with you about "OceanBase Cloud" today. In the past year, OceanBase Cloud has developed very rapidly, achieving a 300% increase in customer revenue, becoming the second growth engine of OceanBase. After more than two years of product polishing and scene verification , OceanBase Cloud officially launched for global customers on August 10, 2022.
Today's sharing I will focus on four parts: first, the characteristics of OceanBase Cloud; second, OceanBase Cloud helps global small and medium-sized enterprises to upgrade digital intelligence; third, OceanBase Cloud full product system; fourth, OceanBase Cloud outlook.
OceanBase Cloud Features
OceanBase has a series of features, such as native distribution, HTAP, high compression ratio, multi-tenancy, etc. When these characteristics are combined with the ease of use, elasticity, and low cost of the cloud itself, the characteristics of OceanBase Cloud are formed—high cost performance, high elasticity, HTAP, and unified cross-cloud architecture.
Let's first look at the first feature, high cost performance. In recent years, in the process of distributed transformation of enterprises, the number of traditional centralized database instances has increased, because traditional centralized databases such as MySQL have the ability to resist high concurrent connections and the ability to resist sudden system shocks. Therefore, the system capacity can only be calculated according to the peak capacity when designing the system capacity for these traditional centralized databases, which leads to the low average daily hardware usage capacity and serious waste of resources in the process of using traditional centralized databases. At the same time, with the rapid growth of enterprise business data volume, when the storage limit of a certain database package on the cloud is exceeded, enterprises often need to purchase a higher-level database package, which will further cause CPU, memory and other resources. waste.
The multi-tenancy capability of OceanBase Cloud can integrate multiple traditional centralized database instances of an enterprise into one or a small number of OceanBase clusters. Resource isolation between multi-tenants and high data compression ratio can effectively reduce the number of instances of enterprises using traditional centralized databases, simplify the architecture, and further improve resource utilization.
Let's look at the second feature, high elasticity. Many enterprises need to carry out activities such as new promotions and promotions within a certain period. The high concurrent traffic brought by these activities in the short term will have a certain impact on the underlying database system. The database under the traditional architecture can only be split horizontally, that is, sub-database and sub-table, in order to reduce the interference to the upper-level business after sub-database and sub-table, a layer of middleware needs to be installed in the middle to shield the sub-database and sub-table. This traditional middleware sub-database sub-table solution has many drawbacks. For example, it cannot support the full SQL function set. If the pre-deployed database and table demolition strategy changes, the data will be relocated and the flexibility of the architecture will be limited.
OceanBase Cloud utilizes OceanBase's own transparent, scalable and transparent distributed capabilities, combined with the easy availability of resources on the cloud, to create an extremely flexible solution that helps small and medium-sized enterprises to seamlessly cope with the rapid increase and decrease of traffic. The third feature, HTAP. At this stage, the business development of enterprises often relies on data to support decision-making, and the promotion of new activities also often requires intelligent marketing supported by data. These all place higher requirements on data analysis systems, such as stronger data processing capabilities and higher timeliness. flexibility, lower data costs, and more. The TP and AP of the traditional scheme are separated, and are carried out by two sets of heterogeneous systems respectively, and the two sets of systems are connected heterogeneously by a data pipeline in the middle. Although it can meet the basic needs of enterprises for HTAP, there are certain drawbacks. First, the timeliness is low, because the data transmission between the two heterogeneous systems takes time; second, the reliability is poor, because the reliability of the data pipeline between the heterogeneous systems is not high; third, the cost is high , because the cost of two systems is required.
Based on OceanBase's own HTAP capability, OceanBase Cloud has launched a new architecture on the cloud, which can bear both TP and AP loads on one piece of data. In this way, because the same data is used for TP and AP at the same time, the timeliness of data analysis is greatly improved; because there is no cross-heterogeneous system, the reliability is significantly increased; at the same time, the number of data storage copies and systems is reduced, and the cost is also greatly increased. reduce. OceanBase Cloud can help enterprises meet data analysis challenges in the new era with higher timeliness, stronger data processing capabilities, and lower costs.
The fourth feature is the unification of cross-cloud architecture. Many databases now claim to be cloud-native databases, but most of them are actually host cloud-native. OceanBase Cloud is a truly cross-cloud-native distributed database that can run on multiple clouds. In the near future, we will release a unified management interface across clouds to truly help customers achieve cross-cloud data migration and cross-cloud data disaster recovery capabilities.
OceanBase Cloud helps global SMEs to upgrade their digital intelligence
Over the past year or so, the OceanBase Cloud team has gone deep into all walks of life to understand the needs of different industries for database architecture and the database itself. We match these needs and precipitate a general solution for a certain industry, hoping to help the same industry. Customers can complete digital and intelligent upgrades better and faster. Next, I will take new retail, Internet finance, and cross-border industries as examples to introduce the general solutions that OceanBase Cloud has accumulated in these three industries to help industry customers solve database pain points.
First, the new retail industry. New retail companies will periodically and regularly carry out promotional spikes and other activities, followed by the normalized traffic impact on IT systems, especially database systems. In addition, activities such as attracting new people and promoting activities often require more effective and real-time data analysis, as well as marketing guidance based on data analysis. Ctrip, Keruyun, Haidilao and other new retail industry customers have taken advantage of OceanBase Cloud's high elasticity, high throughput, and HTAP capabilities to cope with the above challenges calmly.
Second, the Internet finance industry. The core system of the Internet finance industry is the accounting system. The accounting system has very high requirements on the reliability, security, and business continuity of data, as well as on the performance of hot accounts. OceanBase Cloud helps Alipay, Lichu, DANA, GCash and other Internet financial customers to improve their hot account capabilities, meet higher requirements in terms of data security and guarantee of business continuity.
Third, cross-border industries. The cross-border industry has a characteristic. Its supply chain system and the end customers directly served are often not in the same area. Therefore, the databases of cross-border enterprises are usually built on multiple clouds. Development and iteration efficiency present higher challenges, as well as significant additional expenses. The cross-cloud consistent experience of OceanBase Cloud has helped cross-border enterprises such as Zhiou Home Furnishing, Onion Group, and Eicang Technology to effectively deal with the above challenges, helping customers save additional development costs for different clouds and database types, and reduce database maintenance costs. .

The middle part is the core OceanBase database. On the right is our powerful operation and maintenance management and control platform. The upper layer has our very friendly tool system, including OMA, OMS, ODC, OCP, and third-party tools. The underlying cloud infrastructure supports Alibaba Cloud. We will soon release a version that supports AWS, and will support the global mainstream public cloud infrastructure in succession.
In terms of geographical coverage, OceanBase Cloud currently supports multiple sites in China, and has also supported three sites in Singapore, the United States, and Indonesia overseas.
OceanBase Cloud Outlook
In the coming year, OceanBase Cloud will continue to maintain rapid iteration.
First of all, let's look at the speed of forward iteration of multi-cloud capabilities. We will officially release the OceanBase Cloud service of AWS MarketPalace in September, and by June next year, we will gradually support more mainstream clouds around the world.
Finally, in terms of product capabilities, OceanBase Cloud will focus on building tenant-level sales capabilities, which will further reduce the threshold for enterprises to use databases on the cloud. In addition, we will also focus on building cross-continental, cross-regional disaster recovery capabilities, and even cross-cloud disaster recovery capabilities. It is expected that in the middle of next year, OceanBase Cloud will release a multi-cloud integrated management and control platform, allowing enterprise customers to manage OceanBase on different clouds in a unified interface.
OceanBase Cloud has 100% of OceanBase's capabilities, allowing more small and medium-sized enterprises to have financial-grade high-performance databases on the cloud more conveniently and at a lower cost.
