On September 16, the "2022 OSCAR Open Source Industry Conference" hosted by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology and the China Communications Standards Association, and hosted by the Cloud Computing Standards and Open Source Promotion Committee was held in Beijing. As an annual heavyweight research achievement, the "Global Open Source Ecology Research Report (2022)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report") was released at the conference. The rapid development of open source has also brought about the continued popularity of the capital market. The report pointed out that open source investment and financing ushered in the "billion era", showing the new characteristics of large number of single transactions and fast financing, and the database field has become the darling of open source financing. At the same time, the global open source business model has diversified and the market has gradually grown into a large scale.

Although the open source track continues to be hot, the hidden dangers of prosperity cannot be ignored. Excessive reliance on open source software will not only lead to the homogeneity of software products, but also increase intellectual property risks, security risks, and supply chain security risks, which must be taken seriously.

The report shows that the risk of security vulnerabilities in the code base is relatively serious, and the use of outdated and vulnerable open source components is still the norm in the software development process. The five industries with the highest code bases containing open source vulnerabilities in the 2021 statistics are IoT, aerospace, automotive, transportation and logistics, internet, and mobile apps. In addition, the compliance risks and supply chain security risks of open source licenses are receiving more and more attention.

Among them, supply chain risks are relatively hidden, and the development situation is extremely severe. The open source risk management and control mechanism is not perfect, which will lead to a centralized exposure period for open source risks in the future. If the industry cannot establish a sound open source security review and assessment and risk governance mechanism, the number of open source risk events will continue to rise, the frequency of occurrence will continue to increase, and the consequences will become more serious.

my country's open source ecology has entered a new stage, responding to changes and grasping new opportunities in the industry

The "14th Five-Year Plan" and the 2035 Vision Outline mentioned open source for the first time, and clearly proposed to support the development of innovative consortia such as digital technology open source communities.
