OceanBase won two OSCAR awards, and open source has become a mainstream development model

In the past year, China's open source and even the global open source have shown a rapid development trend. Open source has gradually become a mainstream development model, which has landed in various technical fields and penetrated into many traditional industries. However, how to improve the open source governance capabilities of enterprises, how to ensure the application security of open source software, and how to promote the development and improvement of open source ecology have become issues that need to be paid attention to and solved on the road of open source technology application and development. OceanBase has been officially open sourced since June 1, 2021. It adopts the industry's common Open Core model to completely open source the OceanBase database kernel, distributed components and interface drivers, with a total of 3 million lines of open source code, including SQL engine, transaction engine and storage engine. Supports core technologies such as multiple copies, distributed transactions, high performance, scalability, failure recovery, optimizer, multi-active disaster recovery, and syntax compatibility.

From the first version 3.1.0 with only the database kernel and one-click installation and deployment basic tools in the early days, to the release of the three versions 3.1.1, 3.1.2, and 3.1.3, OceanBase ecological tool community edition support (including operation Dimension management tool OCP, developer tool ODC, data synchronization tool OMS, import and export tool obdumper/obloader, etc.), make it easier for users to use OceanBase. And then to open multi-modal data types, JSON support, compatible with HBase API, so that the ecology has more possibilities. On July 18th not long ago, version 3.1.4 was released, which optimized and improved the usability and stability of the kernel for application feedback from community projects.

After a year of accumulation, OceanBase Community Edition has 33,000+ community users, 129 global core code contributors, 200+ enterprise customers, and 4,600+ Stars on GitHub, and through more than 300 technical collisions every day (online Community interaction) and weekly technical evangelistic activities, connecting thousands of developers, and 1 year of open source has caught up with the community activity of top foreign mainstream community projects for 2 years. Winning two OSCAR awards this time not only represents the industry's recognition of the development direction of native distributed databases, but also motivates OceanBase to continue its efforts.
