The story of message queues was born in 1983 when Vivek Ranadive, a Mumbai engineer working at MIT, conceived of a software bus concept. For the next four decades, the saga of message queues continued. The AMQP standard was born, and its cross-language and cross-platform features make it a standard messaging middleware technology widely used across the industry.
