1. An unexpected report
Some time ago, I saw an article in Open Source China that shared the most popular technical skills at present. According to the Q3 technical work report released by the recruitment agency Dice, the article pointed out the most popular technical skills at the moment, namely SQL, Java, Python and Linux. As shown below:
Throughout the article, we discuss and analyze the changing needs of various hot technical competencies, and point out the future trends of some fast-growing skills.
But when I saw the screenshot of the report, I found that the project management ability, which is in higher demand and ranked first, was not mentioned in detail in the text, but used the sentence "Employers are looking for people who understand the core concepts of software development and project management. Technicians, in addition to technical skills such as SQL, Java, Python, and Linux."
From the screenshots, we can clearly see that the project management capability ranks first among many technical capabilities, and it still ranks first even when the demand for SQL, Java, Python, and Linux has increased, which shows that the market has no interest in Project management skills are in great demand.
But why is it that the demand for project management capabilities is so great, yet everyone pays little attention?
The main point is that most people think that the project management ability is "not my business", I don't need to have it and I ignore it. But do programmers really need this ability?
"The 'curse' that programmers will be unemployed at the age of 35" circulated on the Internet seems to have deeply bound their future and age, declaring the end of programmers. Everyone is terrified and worried about their future.
In the workplace, we have more or less seen or even experienced such things: some employees are already supervisors at a young age; while some senior employees are still doing some basic work.
Behind these status quo, and project management ability is not unrelated. Project management skills should not be overlooked, both in terms of professional development and personal growth.
The importance of project management skills
1. Project management ability is an essential skill for professionals
The American "Fortune" magazine once pointed out that project management ability has become an essential skill for professionals. But in fact, the vast majority of programmers do not realize the importance of project management to themselves. Sometimes ignoring is more costly than not doing.
Project management skills are not unique to management or project managers. From the perspective of career development, project management ability is very helpful to one's career planning and advancement. Various senior technical positions will also use project management ability to control the overall situation of the work.
As "workers" in the workplace, we should broaden our professional boundaries and "add value" for ourselves! The Programmer's Survival Manual may provide you with some ideas and dry goods to help you survive and become better in an ever-evolving and changing world.
2. Everyone is their own project manager
Each of us can be our own project manager. This does not mean that everyone should have the power of a project manager, but rather the thinking and methods of a project manager. The same is true in life.
Regardless of the size of the project, any one thing can be regarded as a project, and the person who executes this thing is the project manager. It can be the design and development of a certain product function, a learning plan, or a house renovation, event preparation, travel, etc. If you want to learn about the knowledge content of project management, welcome to Zen Dao School, we provide you with a lot of knowledge content to help you learn and understand the knowledge of project management.
