The computer is like my confidant

Yes, I do have a habit of taking my computer with me wherever I go.

In 2020, our company went to the Gobi for team building. Even with such a arduous journey, I still carried my beloved computer on my back.

But it turned out that it was too naive at the time. I didn't expect that the Gobi had no Internet at all, and it was useless to bring a computer. Moreover, for the long-term Gobi trekking, the weight of the computer is indeed a big burden.

In the end, I still put down the computer on the Gobi Desert, but the habit of bringing a computer has become a part of my daily life.

The reason for developing this habit comes from two previous work experiences.

The first paragraph was when I was doing development in Ali that year. Once, I thought I had gone through the entire release process, so I hurriedly took a taxi home from get off work, and didn’t even think about taking my computer with me. When the car had driven more than ten kilometers and reached the highway, my colleague called me and told me that I needed to click the "verification confirmation" button. In desperation, I had to ask the taxi driver to turn around and take me back to the company - just for the sake of Hit the OK button on my computer. This incident made me realize the importance of carrying a computer with me all of a sudden.

The second paragraph is when I was doing software outsourcing, because customers would raise their needs from time to time. Once encountering an emergency, I needed to help solve it as soon as possible. From then on, a belief began to take root in my heart: The computer is the source of my sense of security. With the computer, everything becomes controllable . No matter when and where, I can only trust this computer in my hand.

Therefore, in 2020, I also took a computer with me when I went hiking in the Gobi. I was also subconsciously worried that if the company encountered some emergencies, it would have to use a computer to respond.

For a long time, I have been exploring the solution of replacing computers with mobile phones, but mobile phones still have some underlying limitations, which cannot run engineering scripts, and can only help me solve a small part of the problems.

computer is like my confidant , a confidant is less than a thousand cups of wine, I and ONES are also the feeling and process of seeing each other too late.

In August 2020, I was introduced to ONES by a friend, so I met with CTO Feng Bin (nickname: Kid) with the mentality of giving it a try.

What I still remember is that Kid not only introduced ONES' business, service, development platform and technology development plan to me at that time, but we also talked about the understanding of technology value and the prediction of the future trend of technology. For a long time, it can be said that it was a hit and miss.

In my past work experience, almost all of the previous bosses had no technical background. When I communicated with them, it was often difficult to achieve unity of thought. And this time, I found that I could with the company's CTO, reach a consensus, and have a tacit understanding that it off. This is a very rare opportunity for R&D personnel.

So, from the interview to the entry, it took me only 3 days in total to work on the hotline.

Strong engineer culture and curiosity

If you talk to me about ONES technology, I will talk a lot in one go.

As a team with an engineer culture and strong curiosity, ONES has a very avant-garde judgment in the selection of technical architecture at the beginning of its business in 2015, and dares to try new things.

For example, in front-end development, ONES chose the React framework, which was still in its early stages, to develop and implement our features. In fact, the ecology and perfection of the React technology stack were insufficient at that time.

Similarly, in the field of back-end development, we chose to use the Go language, which only released its first version in 2015 and was not the mainstream at that time, but at that time we saw that it was oriented towards high concurrency and high performance. The service fits very well with the product features of SaaS, and I believe this design idea is correct, so it has been sticking to it for many years.

Over the years, the React framework and Go language have developed into one of the best frameworks and languages in the community, and are gradually applied to more large companies. Facts have proved that our judgment at that time was correct, which is also an important reason for attracting some outstanding talents to stay.

With a clear direction structure, from the perspective of technical implementation, ONES is currently in the growth stage that most companies must go through, that is, the rapid iteration of products and the rapid development of business, which will inevitably lead to a certain degree of existence in our products. However, this is a reasonable process, and I believe that ONES is continuing to iterate towards a more mature, stable and high-quality direction.

The reason may be that the agile development adopted by the company makes the whole company work at a relatively fast pace, and everyone is fully committed to their own tasks. Interact with each other and collide with each other. This form makes you feel that the whole team is standing side by side at all times.

At the same time, the iterative model disassembles a development project into multiple small sprints. The goal of each small iteration is specific and clear, and everyone can concentrate on it, so it is full of combat effectiveness.

Usually, I will often contact the relevant colleagues of the technical committee. Everyone is indeed an expert with a profound technical background. Usually, the exchange of technical solutions with them is very smooth. is very comfortable to work with so many excellent people.

Learn new knowledge and improve yourself

In a blink of an eye, it has been about a year and a half since I came to ONES. In the few jobs before I came to ONES, my focus was on output, but in ONES, I gained more possibilities to learn new knowledge and improve myself, and had a lot of input.

From the inside, at ONES, for the first time, I worked so closely with the CTO. CTO Feng Bin has many advanced methodologies in terms of technical perspective, technical management, and team governance, which my eyes for me to learn and learn from.

I very much agree with many of Kid's views, such as "what is unmeasurable cannot be managed", that is to say, if you want to manage a person better, if you only evaluate his learning ability, way of thinking and Growth, there is often no way to approach the truth, only by transforming it into a measurable indicator, so as to accurately define whether his ability is 3 points, 4 points or 5 points.

Based on this scoring method, we will have a clearer, more comprehensive and more scientific understanding of this person. This is a principled, systematic, executable, implementable, and verifiable management method. Scenarios such as recruitment interviews and ability assessments all operate in this way.

From an external point of view, ONES has also given me a lot of resources, allowing me to go out and communicate with more people in the same industry and circle to discuss . I also participated in many industry forums, such as GMTC (Global Front-end Technology Conference), GTLC (Global Technology Leadership Summit), etc., through which I got to know a lot of excellent CTOs and technical VPs, which I seldom came into contact with before.

When I was a child, my ambition was to be a scientist. Since I was a child, I liked to toss with computers, circuit boards and radios at home. Now my ideal is similar to before. I may not be a scientist, but it is not bad to be an engineer. In addition to work, I also like to read some technical articles in private. A historical figure I admire very much is Tesla. He is a self-taught scientist whose ultimate ideal is to use technology to change the world.

In modern times, Musk, the founder of the electric car brand Tesla, is such a person. At the peak of Tesla's "brake failure" public opinion storm in 2021, it was at the cusp moment. I bought Tesla's car because I believe in this brand with "Iron Man" temperament.

My home is in Guangzhou, and I usually go to work in Shenzhen. Sometimes I miss some important growing up moments of my two daughters. Therefore, I will spend the weekends with my family as high quality as possible. I am very satisfied that can achieve a balance between work and family, and get the joint support of the company and family.
