The 100th version of Chrome OS officially ushered in this week, and it also brings some new features designed to make it more intuitive and better for Chromebook users.
Let's take a look at some of the new changes that are worth noting.
Learn more with the new launcher
The launcher opens on the side of the screen, rather than from the bottom, to allow users more space for any windows to open. Second, new options for sorting icons, users can arrange manually or organize by name or color. The search bar will show more detailed previews from Google as users type, and the new launcher will quickly guide you to the tab you need if you have a bunch of browser tabs and windows open. The information search function has also become easier, previously showing a short preview of search results, this update will let users see more information before entering the browser.
Edit with your voice
Dictation lets you dictate text anywhere on your Chromebook. Now, edit with your voice too. For example, you can now just say "delete" to delete the last letter, or "move to the next character" to adjust the cursor's position on the screen. Or if you're not sure what command to use, try saying "help" and maybe a Chromebook will give you some inspiration.
Create and share your own GIFs
Now, users can make their own pictures in the Chromebook Camera app. Just open the camera app, select "Video," then switch to "GIF" to record a five-second video, which automatically converts to an animated GIF when you're done. Share it via email and other apps on your Chromebook, or use Nearby Share to send it to your Android phone.
