Last year, I felt like I should get more certifications. I already have the certification of Developer Associate, and I feel that it should not be a problem to obtain the certification of Solutions Architect Associate on this basis. However, I was wrong, just the related learning process took a lot of time. To successfully pass an exam, this ability must be acquired through effective study and continuous improvement of one's own mentality.

I recently took the DevOps Specialist certification course. My background is mostly in development, but I've also spent a lot of time setting up various environments and infrastructure in recent years. It's worth mentioning that my main technical experience covers Amazon Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, API Gateway, and SNS/SQS. In order to successfully pass the DevOps Specialist certification exam, I have prepared the following list of tips and materials. You can use these in any order.

General advice . Don't underestimate the content, outline, and timing of the test preparation phase. Take a 3-hour exam, which is challenging in itself. I took the test at a Pearson VUE approved test center and they provided me with two A4 sheets to write on. But in the case of an online exam, you won't be able to write anything at all. The notes during the exam help to record your thoughts and act as a reminder for yourself in the follow-up examination process.

Pass the SysOps Administrator exam

Try to focus on monitoring and deployment. This exam will primarily emphasize content related to deployment, auditing, and monitoring. DevOps preparation takes about 1-2 months.

Read the white paper

I completely ignored the white paper in the Developer Associate exam. White papers can help us build the right mindset to ensure we can implement according to Amazon cloud technology best practices. It is recommended that you read these white papers before bed. The list of officially provided white papers is as follows:

main course

Please complete a course in a laboratory setting. Any platform will do. There are many such labs, but ACloudGuru or CloudAcademy are the best ones to use. Taking some handwritten notes as you prepare for the test days will go a long way.

Using Skill Builder

This is an official online learning platform provided by Amazon Cloud Technology, and the content quality is excellent. The only downside is that registration is required here, but registration is also free.

The following courses are recommended:

  • Getting Started with DevOps on AWS
  • AWS Certification Official Practice Question Sets (Sample tests for all of these exams are now free)
  • Exam Readiness: AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional

self-study

Complete 75 questions in one sitting (TutorialsDojo exam practice or exams offered at the end of the course) and don't get discouraged by the results of the practice exams.

Topics and services to focus on are: Beanstalk, Config, Trusted Advisor, Auto Scaling, CloudFront, CodeDeploy, Systems Manager, S3, Logging, CloudTrail, CodeCommit.

If you have a day or two before the exam, focus your energy on the most complex areas. It is recommended to read the cheat sheet provided by Tutorialsdojo, they are very useful.

take care

Get a good night's sleep, do some physical exercise, and make time to go out for a walk. Take a short break during the exam to stand and stretch yourself. Avoid consuming too much caffeine and sugar, especially in the last week before exams. In the end, all of these factors can add up and cause you to feel tired or have trouble concentrating. To improve concentration, try meditating or doing yoga.

The exam is challenging, but with preparation and careful adherence to the plan, you too can become an Amazon Cloud Technology Certified Professional. If this article can give you some help, it's worth it to me. Thanks for reading! Follow me on Twitter: @grenguar.
