Flutter's vision is to allow you to draw unlimited beautiful applications on a blank canvas. Recently, in collaboration with the gskinner team, we created a brand new mobile app, Wonderous, to realize this vision. Using a different design system, we leveraged Flutter to create an expressive interface for Wonderous that is tailored for mobile and fulfills the designer's creative vision.

When developing Wonderous, we kept the following goals in mind:
- Build a useful and fun app. By exploring the wonders of the world, the Wonderous app allows users to travel where history, art and culture meet. Traveling is difficult for many people these days, but Wonderous brings the wonders of every place to you directly on your device with beautiful illustrations and optimized animations.
- Demonstrate a high-quality user experience. We expect Wonderous to be comparable in quality to any other application in the system framework. Wonderous captivates users with its tailored, imaginative design, but also uses familiar gestures and behaviors to ensure a seamless user experience.
- Create an app for testing and benchmarking. We used Wonderous to test Impeller, a new rendering engine now available in experimental preview on iOS. So far, we are satisfied with the test results, which will help validate our hypothesis that Impeller can improve performance. The version currently available on the App Store uses Impeller, welcome to download and experience, and we are very much looking forward to seeing how Impeller performs on a wider range of iOS devices in production.
- Provide a reference, open source best practice application. Open-sourced on GitHub, our Wonderous code is a best-practice application with custom design, engaging interactions, and novel animations, with accessibility first.
- Create materials and documents that others can learn from. In the coming weeks, the gskinner team will be releasing more about Wonderous, including specific information on how to create animations, how to incorporate accessibility features, and best practices for app performance. Stay tuned!
After downloading Wonderous in the App Store or Google Play Store, you may want to explore the following:
- The transition effect when sliding left and right in Wonders may be difficult to achieve without using Flutter;
- Unique scrolling mode as you move through the World History Chronology;
- Custom buttons and icons that match the Wonderous design system.
The app is available in Chinese for domestic users. Please visit the official website of the app or go to the Wonderous GitHub open source repository page to learn more.
