Recently, the open source project Milvus has achieved a new milestone in the journey of vector database - GitHub 10,000 stars. Although we believe that the number of stars is not the only criterion for evaluating the quality of an open source project, we would like to thank every developer who supports the Milvus project with stars.
It has been two and a half years since the Milvus project was announced as open source. At the beginning, few people knew what a vector database was, let alone how to use a vector database to empower AI applications. Milvus is committed to defining and building next-generation databases for artificial intelligence. We combine SOTA algorithms and cloud-native technologies in our project, allowing developers to easily build AI applications through Milvus vector databases.
There are a number of excellent open source projects included in Milvus [1], and we are very grateful that these projects have laid a solid foundation for what Milvus is today.
We are also very grateful to every community member for co-creating a new type of database, the vector database, which is a very exciting thing. Let us review the achievements of the project in its growth journey, and sincerely thank all project developers and contributors:
- Milvus joined the LF AI & Data Foundation as an incubation project[2], standing with many other great open source AI and big data projects. Milvus is now a graduate project of the Foundation[3].
- We released two major versions: Milvus 1.0[4] and Milvus 2.0[5].
- Milvus' first paper was published at SIGMOD: Milvus: A Purpose-Built Vector Data Management System[6].
- Currently, we have over 10,000 community members, including 220 contributors from around the world.
- So far, more than 1,000 enterprise users [7] have adopted Milvus, many of which are excellent leading enterprises.

These achievements are made possible thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Milvus project. Thank you for every Pull Request submission, issue report, conference participation and sharing and dissemination of Milvus knowledge, you have played an indispensable role in the development of Milvus!

With a vision to redefine data science, Zilliz is committed to building a global leader in open source technology innovation and unlocking the hidden value of unstructured data for enterprises through open source and cloud-native solutions.
Zilliz built the Milvus vector database to accelerate the development of a next-generation data platform. The Milvus database is a graduate project of the LF AI & Data Foundation. It can manage a large number of unstructured data sets and has a wide range of applications in new drug discovery, recommendation systems, chatbots, etc.
