《算法导论(第4版)》阅读笔记：p18-p31

《算法导论(第4版)》学习第 11 天，p18-p31 总结，总计 4 页。

一、技术总结

1. Fourier transform(傅里叶变换)

In mathematics, the Fourier transform (FT) is an integral transform that takes a function as input then outputs another function that describes the extent to which various frequencies are present in the original function.

当看到 Fourier 一下没反应过了是“傅里叶”， 那就记一下吧。

二、英语总结(生词：3)

1. elicit

(1)elicit: e-("out") + -licere("to entice, lure, deceive, 诱惑")

vt. elicit literally means "to draw out by enticing"; to call forth or draw out sth(引起，引发，引出)。

(2)示例

We also need to be clear about whether we are discussing the running time for an input that elicits the worst-case behavior, the best-case behavior, or some other case(《《算法导论(第4版)》》第 26 页)。

上面这句话的意思是：我们还需要明确我们讨论的是哪种情况下的算法运行时间：是输入引发最优行为的情况，还是输入引发最差行为的情况，亦或是其它情况。

2. educated

(1)educated

adj. 1. having an education(受过教育的)。2. 比喻意义用法：based on some knowledge of fact(有根据的，有依据的)。

(2)示例

You need not make some educated guess about the running time and hope that it never gets much worse(《《算法导论(第4版)》》第 31 页)。

上面这句话的意思是：你无需对运行时间做出某种有根据的猜测，您也无需担心运行时间会变得更长。

3. fairly

(1)fair

adj. 1. impartial and justice(公平的，合理的)。2. moderately numerous, large, or significant(相当的)。

(2)fairly: fair + -ly

adv. 1. justly(公平地)。2. to a moderately high degree，less than very(相当地，表示程度的副词)。

(3)示例

For some algorithms, the worst case occurs fairly often(《《算法导论(第4版)》》第 31 页)。

因为“公平地”和“相当地”意思相差有点大，同时我只记住了"公平"，导致自己每次看到 fairly 脑子都要卡一下——“公平地”意思说不通啊，单词没有记错吧？这里捋一下。
