• To protect git.sr.ht from LLM crawlers, Anubis has been deployed. It presents a proof-of-work challenge solved by the user's browser with JavaScript, bypassed for logged-in users. Log in at meta.sr.ht if the browser doesn't support JavaScript. Note that Anubis is only for the web frontend and API access and git operations are unaffected.
• SourceHut continues to face disruptions due to aggressive LLM crawlers. Mitigations like deploying Nepenthes to certain routes associated with large LLM traffic are in place. Some pages may not be usable for non-logged-in users. Mitigations only affect the web frontend; SSH access, git operations, and API access are normal.
• If having problems using the SourceHut web UI, log into the account as logged-in users bypass most mitigations. If not working, contact support on IRC or via email [~sircmpwn/mailto:sr.ht-support@lists.sr.ht].
• If the cloud server can't reach SourceHut and has a legitimate reason, email support [~sircmpwn/mailto:sr.ht-support@lists.sr.ht] to request an exception and explain the use-case with affected IPs/subnets.
• SourceHut administrators are kindly asked to program software with responsible usage patterns. Prefer webhooks over polling, use git fetch or shallow clone for git operations, and set a User-Agent string identifying software and including an email for contact. If using git(1), set the GIT_HTTP_USER_AGENT environment variable. Contact support for advice on making integrations more efficient or setting up webhooks.
