- Quoted Proverb: A high school teacher quoted "Do something you love, and you'll never work a day in your life!" which might have influenced Alan Filion.
- Turned Crime into Job: Filion loved making fake "swatting" calls and turned it into a job using handles like "Nazgul Swattings" and "Third Reich of Kiwiswats". He offered different prices for various emergencies like gas leak, fire, bomb threat, etc. and made 375 calls between August 2022 and January 2024, averaging 21 calls per month.
- Harassing Others: He targeted public schools in Skagit County, Washington, leaving voicemails with threats like school shootings and pipe bombs. He also called crisis hotlines and local police departments multiple times, making threats and demanding money. He called 20 more public high schools across Washington state and ended many calls with the sound of automatic gunfire. His actions were disruptive across the US, UK and Canada.
- Repeat Offender: He had a history of making such calls and was willing to harass just about anyone. An incident report from Florida after he made a swatting call against a mosque was shown.
- Denial and Arrest: When the FBI searched his home in July 2023 and interviewed him and his father, he falsely denied any involvement. Amazingly, he continued swatting after the feds left. He was finally arrested on January 18, 2024 and eventually pled guilty and was sentenced to 48 months in federal prison.
