- Background: Denizen is a CMS for personal websites. The author wants to add multi-language support as their own blog is in multiple languages and this is a blocker. They ask if others have solved this.
- Language picker: Users should be able to set their site to any language with an ISO-639 code including conlangs. A good list is hard to find; Wikipedia's lists have issues. Ideally, a big JSON file with assigned codes and names is needed.
- Fallback: The language setting is used for Denizen's UI. There are three tiers of language matching: simple BCP 47 matching, sister language matching (e.g. Dutch and Afrikaans), and unrelated language matching (like Turkish for Laz). CLDR seems to offer a fix but the author couldn't figure it out.
- Selecting language for individual posts: Big social medias use heuristics which can be expensive and go wrong. There is a need to find an alternative for when people post mixed language articles using Denizen. Whether they can annotate correctly, and how the author can help or encourage them is unclear.
