在斯诺登和苹果的推动下,私人搜索引擎 DuckDuckGo 迅速发展。

  • DuckDuckGo's Milestone: The privacy-minded search engine DuckDuckGo announced reaching a milestone. It now serves over 10 million searches per day. In 2012, it hit 1.5 million searches per day and had grown by 227 percent in three months. Since then, it has continued to grow with more privacy-conscious users. Traffic jumped after Snowden revelations in 2013 and after being included in Safari in 2014. Mozilla also added it as an option to Firefox last year.
  • How It Works: DuckDuckGo uses its own Web crawler and data from other search engines like Yahoo, Bing, and Blekko (not Google). It claims not to log IP addresses or user agents and uses default encryption modeled after HTTPS Everywhere.
  • Founder's Tweet: Founder Gabriel Weinberg announced the daily search milestone on Twitter, expressing gratitude. He said in recent years, the rise with Apple and Mozilla took time and now they are at a size that gets noticed. He believes they are sustainable and don't have to get bigger to exist.
