Development since FreeDOS 1.3: Developers have been adding features, fixing bugs, making translations, updating programs, and writing documentation. Many thanks to the contributors.
New version changes:
- Package updates: Many programs like FreeCOM, Xcopy, Move, Fdisk, mTCP, and FDHelp have been updated with various fixes and improvements. Some updates like Blocek text editor didn't make it in time for 1.4. The FreeDOS kernel is still the 1.3 version as the new one isn't ready.
- Streamlined packages: Some graphical desktops like Seal and oZone were dropped. OpenGEM is still included with a "helper" for the "root" directory issue. DOSVIEW replaced BMP2PNG as an image viewer and converter.
- Rearranged packages: A rolling test release system was implemented with Jerome Shidel's idea. Packages are now balanced on CDs to make them more organized and reduce size.
Getting started: Visit FreeDOS 1.4 | Download to download the distribution. Use the Live CD for most users, especially in virtual machines. There are also USB, Legacy CD, and floppy installers available. The Live CD installs a complete DOS system with various components.
