Rust 1.0,十年后

  • It's been ten years since Rust 1.0 was released. The author stopped working on Rust three years ago and the last three years have been tough but 2025 is looking good.
  • The post is different from the traditional one by Graydon. The comment mentioned that Rust is a great professional language due to refactors and development speed from the type system and borrow checker. Patrick Walton said the first 5 years were considered only for hobby projects.
  • The release of Rust 1.0 was stressful with deep anxiety among the team. The question was if it would be used in production or just as a hobby language. Now, Rust is widely used in real, critical projects by large companies.
  • The release of 1.0 marked the start of focusing on stability and gaining users. They had to ship stable releases regularly. Over the ten years, a lot changed with a lot of hard work.
  • Rust is not perfect and there's more work to do. But ten years ago, they were just hoping it would work. Now, they can update stable version and use it at work. The author is grateful for the opportunity and hopes others feel the same.
  • There is a post about this on BlueSky.
