H3:North Korean News Agency Accounts Hacked
- A Twitter and Flickr account associated with a North Korean news agency has been taken over by hackers claiming to be from Anonymous.
- Instead of pro-North Korea propaganda, the accounts are now criticizing North Korea and Kim Jong-un for building nuclear weapons.
- The hackers also claimed to have hacked the news agency's website and other North Korean websites which are offline.
H3:About Uriminzokkiri
- Uriminzokkiri is a North Korean news and propaganda site.
- In 2010, it established a Twitter account which was described as "the closest thing North Korea has to an official home page" and "one of the few Web sites believed to be run from the secretive nation" by the IDG News Service.
H3:Changes on Hacked Accounts
- The Twitter page with 14,000 followers switched from Korean to English this morning and the profile picture was changed to an illustration of two dancers wearing Guy Fawkes masks.
- The hackers of the Flickr account are posting various pro-Anonymous and anti-North Korea pictures, like one depicting Kim Jong-un with pig ears and a Mickey Mouse picture on his chest.
H3:Related Hacks and Tensions
- Several days ago, hackers purportedly affiliated with Anonymous targeted Uriminzokkiri and claimed to have stolen 15,000 hashed passwords.
- A Washington Post article said Anonymous launched distributed denial of service attacks against several state-run North Korean websites, but claims of hacking into North Korea's intranet seem unfounded.
- Tensions have risen between North Korea and South Korea with North Korea making threats against the US, and US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said North Korean threats to Guam, Hawaii, and the US mainland have to be taken seriously.
H3:Update
- Uriminzokkiri seems to have taken back control of its Flickr page, but the Twitter account is still showing the Anonymous posts.
