实践:Firefox 3.6 beta 支持 Personas(个性主题)、全屏视频

  • Announcement and Overview: Mozilla announced the availability of Firefox 3.6 beta last week. Codenamed Namoroka, it's an incremental update with new features, enhanced performance, and improvements to Web standards support. The final version is expected next year.
  • August Test and Performance: In August, the first alpha release was tested. It had excellent performance improvements in JavaScript execution speed and nice CSS enhancements like support for WebKit's gradients.
  • New Features Since Alpha: Since the original alpha version, support for the Web Open Font Format (WOFF) was introduced. Firefox 3.6 also expanded on HTML 5 video element work from 3.5, supporting video poster frames and fullscreen playback.
  • Mobile Browsing Feature: In 3.6, a new MozOrientation event handler was introduced to enable webpages to access device accelerometer data through JavaScript. It was demonstrated on a Nokia N900 with Fennec browser.
  • Personas Project: Launched by Mozilla Labs in 2007, Personas is now an official part of Firefox. It allows users to change the browser's user interface with lightweight themes and custom images and colors. There's an online Personas gallery.
  • Add-on Compatibility: Mozilla is encouraging add-on developers to work on compatibility with 3.6. They introduced a new compatibility-reporting tool to help users identify and report non-working add-ons.
  • Download and Resources: Firefox 3.6 is available for download from the Mozilla website. The author had issues running it on Linux (BadWindow error) but tested it on Windows Vista. For more details, see the official release announcement and notes for developers.
